Phenix Rods
I called Phenix the other day and got an estimate on what it would cost to have a 9 ft graphiter custom wrapped. They said it would run about $150 and the other graphiter rods I was interested in, as seen by some in a past post, would cost less than $150. In my book these are damn good deals. What do you guys think? I was also thinking about getting a Graphite USA custom wrapped for my 7 ft 40# stick but I dont know what the cost is. Also, if you have any recommendations on different blanks I should consider then throw those in there too.

$150 a pop!?!?
At $150 each, I'd set myself up. That is a SMOKIN' deal on a custom wrap!
Get the:
900L: 20 and 25# bait(you'll fish one or the other, not both)
800M: 30# bait
765XL: 40# bait. It isn't 7 feet, but a lot of people whose opinions I value claim this is the "perfect" 40# baitstick
Also, if you can get a GUSA blank wrapped, jump on it. They're getting rare.

Hey for the 9ft jig stick would you go with a rod rated up to 30# or 40#. Im not sure which I want but Ive never used a the 9ft graphiter so Im not positive which of the two I want. 30# is what Im mainly gunna be fishing jigs on but on ocasion it will be used for 40#.
Jerry, what length is the 765 and line class?

I won't use the 900H for a jig stick or for bait (it's recommended use is live bait), and I'm 6 ft. tall and well over 250 lbs. I like long bait rods and I don't own that one, it'll work ya. Just not enough bend in it. If you're going to get one jigstick, make it a 40# setup. Bigger line sinks quicker, it's stronger, and it won't negatively affect the action of your jigs any more than 30#. There's really no downside. I don't think you'll find a better 40# jigstick than the 90J (Calstar or Seeker Fiberglass), but if you are sure you want a Graphiter jig stick, I'd try the 850H for 40#, or the 900M for 30#. I understand that some folks really love that GUSA 85MonsterMag for a jigstick, too. Check 'em out and see what you like. You might even find that you like 8 footers better, lots of guys do.
The Graphiter 765's are all 6 1/2ft. the XL is rated 40#-50#

The 9 ft stick would be used for casting iron not bait. If it wouldnt make a good jig stick for the iron then what should I get? Calstar isnt necessary.

Get a fiberglass jigstick. Check out the fiberglass rods at Turner's. Run some line through the guides and pull on them a little. Find out what you like. You might like the softer action of a 530or 690J, or you might prefer a 6490 or 90J. I think the 90J is the best all-around jigstick, and you may agree with me. Then again, you might like the 530 better. I prefer Calstars, but Seeker makes a fine rod too. So does Lamiglas and GUSA.
Most important of all, find what you like

I just checked out the rods online and I have handled the 6480 and I think I like it a little more than the 90J but the 90J is still a awesome jig stick. I have used the 80J and liked the castability but it was painful pulling back on the fish. How much better do you think the 90J is than the 6490?

I like it better, because it has a faster action. You might like the the 6490 better. Check out the Seekers, they make a 9'3" and 10ft. ULUA rods that are pretty sweet. They're logs, but they're sweet.
