looking for help on sunglasses?
recently my 2yr old niece broke my shades in half. i paid only 9 bucks for them at walmart, and that's mostly likely the reason why they broke so easily.
anyways i'm in the market for some new shades. looking for a durable pair and i don't wanna spend more than 75 bucks. any suggestion?
one more question. what color lens works best for fishing? i've heard amber is best and i heard copper is best. which one is it?

I haven't really been in the market for glasses in a while so I'm not really sure which ones to recommend, but as far as lens color is concerned -
I like to have interchangeable lenses. Amber lenses are best for freshwater fishing since they give you better visability in the water. And the gray lenses keep more glare out and are great for saltwater. Just depends on what you want to do. If you're sight fishing at all, I'd go with amber.

Look into Hoven Sunglasses.. They sell a nice set of Polorized sunglasses at Sports Chalet for about $50. I have a pair that I've been using for about 8 months and they take a beating.
Other than that, I HIGHLY recommend any SPY Optics sunglasses, they are the best out there for the money in all forms.. IMO anyway.
I like my Hovens though..They look like this.. I can't remember perfectly, they are in the car somewhere.

I tend to prefer brown lenses, so amber falls in that range...kinda.
I seem to be able to pick up kelp patches pretty good with that color but you're kinda looking for a difference in the surface diffraction anyway, so whatever you get, it needs to be polarized...you'd be surprised at how many expensive glasses are not polarized.
I could be wrong, but I believe that the ones that darken automatically can't be polarized.
As far as brands, I tend to vary from moderately cheap to fairly expensive but I've noticed that the $25 or higher cost models are light years in terms of quality above the $10.00 models.
I'm not sure that they fall into your price range but Costa Del Mars are nice and for some reason, the bifocal pair that I got have lenses that feel silky smooth when I clean them so I'm assuming that helps prevent scratching since I don't have to press so hard when I clean them.
I have to have at least two kinds of sunglasses, Over the Glasses kind and regular. But if I get the regular I have to bring reading glasses if they're not bifocals. Yes, I'm blind at close distances :P
Hint:this is a good weekend to hit up Big 5 for sales...they usually have a pretty big discount on sunglasses...actually, go today. The sale has already started I believe.

thanks for the 411 guys. i'll be using them for freshwater. those hoven shades look sweet and love the lifetime warranty. i'll have to look into those, and i'll have to check out big 5 weekend.
BTW are bronze lens and amber lens the same thing? those hoven shades don't have amber lens, only gray and bronze.

Amber is brighter...I'd use them for skiing, or shooting...I like brown/bronze more for fishing but it's up to you. Try them out.

flyfishingfool - I just bought a pair of Fisherman's Eyewear Guideline sunglasses in coppera few months back and I am very impressed with them. They've worked very well for sight fishing trout in the streams of the Eastern Sierras to spotting corbina in our local surf . They range from 50-70 bucks. They have a bunch of different models at Marriott's.
