If I were to sum up this report into a few words, they'd be "
Epic, WFO and Tiring As Heck!! " That's the concise report.
(Skip to pictures, otherwise continue reading for full report)
So as most of you (may) know I just got my 1st round of Chemo Therapy last Thursday. I was scared as hell that it would knock me down and condemn me to bed rest for the entire time. NOT!!! Turns out I'm feeling quite fine (thank God!). So being on disability and having spent way more time than I'm used to at home I decided to take a nice little trip with the Boyz!
With the help of a Hookup Member, I had a magic spot where Magic Native Rainbow Trout could be found. Thanks Bro! (Feel free to announce yourself, otherwise my lips are sealed)
We drive, we drive, and then drive some more. This place is about 45-60 minutes from Hollywood, longer than I'm used to but worth the drive. We arrive and with fairly good directions we're on foot and en route to the honey hole(s)! I Wasn't given an actual estimate in miles/minutes/hours so it was quite a surprise that we actually made it to the "spot(s)." To my surprise, much further than I'd expected. I offered, but the kids would not give up!
We walked, jogged, hiked, skipped, wiggled and giggled and jiggled our way but it seemed we'd never get there. The boys were phenomenally cooperative all the way to the spot, which took approximately 1.5-2hrs to reach by foot. Ran into a couple different snakes, a rattle snake included.
Be careful out there!
Once we found the pools it was
EPIC, and
WFO!! Actually, we had to work on the WFO cuz these fish are
picky! I had to be very careful as to what I'd equip the kids with since I didn't wanna go
Treble Hook & Power Bait on the natives as our goal was to Catch & Release EVERY trout we caught.
Native trout don't fall for everything you toss at 'em. Panther Martin's did nothing for these fish.

KM's either. I knew we had to be patient and figure out what they wanted. Tried all the Berkley stuff I had to no avail (power worms, mellows, etc).
The only thing that seemed to get their attention was Salmon Eggs! Cool, we got a piece of the puzzle. But that only lasted so long. Then I realized I had a fresh batch of
DementedFish's Fly Jigs! That's when the fun began!!
The bite was crazy. We played with a pool for a couple minutes, gave 'em a break and moved on to the next for about two hours. Each pool had the same results. Each one of us caught & released way over our limit without foul hooking any of them. All caught & released safely. There were more fish caught than were actually photographed/video'd. Sorry, but it was too fun to bother snapping every one of 'em. Most were 6"-8" models but we also caught at least 10 that went an easy 12-16 inches in length.
There was this MONSTER that sat in a lonesome pool that I managed to hit the fly but as soon as it felt tension it went airborne and spit the hook before I knew it. Made its way into vegetation and never came back out. I kid you not, she had to be an easy 18" and must have been at least 2"-3" wide. Tried again on the way back but she never came out. One shot is all I got.
Time flew by and we left them biting. It always hurts to do that but we needed to make it to the top with sunlight. It was 4pm when we began our trek back to the parking lot and arrived at about 6pm. We were hungry as much as we were pooped!
Not a bad way to knock out a spare 6 hours.

Enjoy the pics & vids!
