SJ Fishing Report
Fishing report
RIVERS AND STREAMS
Klamath: The river is flowing at 2,200 cubic feet per second. The water is running
off-color. Some trout are caught on egg patterns by nymphing deep with plenty of
weight. Some fish are caught on large Princes and Rubberleg Stoneflies. Jack Trout
(530) 926-4540.
Lower Sacramento: Rainbow trout fishing is good. There is a prolific Caddis hatch
between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Fox pupa (size 16-18) in all colors is effective. Try
using little flashback Pheasant Tails, Prince Nymphs and Copper Johns (all size 18,
all colors).
Look for fish on the surface in the late morning/early afternoon. Good
casters/drifters catch fish in the early evening as Caddis and Stoneflies appear.
There are some insects not normally seen this time of year, including Stoneflies.
Jack Trout (530) 926-4540, San Jose Fly Shop (408) 448-5155.
LAKES
San Luis Reservoir/O'Neill Forebay: Some anglers last week reported slow fishing,
but others have fared well. One angler using minnows caught-and-released a 28-pound
striped bass, and three anglers using minnows caught six fish weighing up to eight
pounds at Portuguese Cove. Coyote Discount Bait and Tackle (408) 463-0711, Ly's
Sporting & Fishing Goods (408) 629-9644.
Loch Lomond: The reservoir was stocked with trout on Wednesday around noon. Trout
fishing has not improved much, probably because of poor water clarity. There is
10-12 feet of visibility. The surface temperature is 65 degrees. Still, trout
fishing is better than bass fishing. Some anglers catch bass weighing 10-12 pounds.
There are no reports of crappie. (831) 335-7424.
McAlpine: Trout fishing is excellent. Anglers catch limits on night crawlers and
lures. Fly-fishing has been good. (831) 623-4263.
Lafayette: This Contra Costa County reservoir near Walnut Creek is scheduled to be
stocked with rainbow trout next week by the Department of Fish and Game. (925)
284-9669.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY
Campbell Perc Ponds: Trout fishing has been good for anglers using spinners and
white Power Eggs.
Calero: Bass fishing slowed, but some continue to catch fish with Senkos, Brush Hogs
or lizards.
Chesbro: Fishing for crappie is good. It was good at Uvas last week, but now is good
here.
Anderson: Fishing for bass has been good for bass for those drop-shotting. Use jigs
or reaction baits. Fishing for crappie has improved.
Coyote: Some anglers finally have caught some trout after the water was stocked a
few times with fish. Bass fishing is slow but is expected to improve.
Stevens Creek: A trout plant by the DFG is scheduled for next week.
