Thanks Nulod. From doing the research i realized taht the kayak is a touring yak which i will be picking up this afternoon. I checked out Youtube videos and i notice how unstable they really are. The Eskimo rolling techniques don't seem to difficult but i think i'll practice in my friends pool first to get the hang of it. After watching some of the dana point fishing vids im really considering looking into a fish and dive sit ontop Yak with a small trolling motor.

Okay, Picked up the yak today from my uncle. It needs alot cleaning and some repairs but it was free. Definitely no space for storage crate so it will be tough as an ocean yak and i definitely wouldn't go ocean without outriggers. Anyways, here it is. It has a 31cc honda engine with prop and gas tank. It was originally a proto for someone who wanted to sell the setups to hotels but couldn't get around the insurance. It would probably be a better setup to just run a Trolling motor but i will try it out and see how it works. I'll have to keep gear to a minimukm and setup some pole holders, paddle holder, and somewhere to hold my coffee mug for the early morning trips. I have a fish finder taht i used to use on my float tube that i'll have to rig up. I probably should just save up and get a new finder with all the GPS bells and whistles. Mine is just a finder and depth reader. I'll try and find a pic of what it looks like.

The finder i have is similar to something like this but its all one piece and doesn't pivot screen. I have to make a mount and sleeve for it but it should do fine in the lakes.

Like i said, i doubt i will be trying it out in ocean anytime soon, or at least not until im comfortable with the setup.

Anytips would be greatly appreciated.

Hollywood there are a few people out there that fish out of sit inside yaks. You should check out some of the other kayak fishing forums, you will be sure to get your questions answered.

Ditto. The parts add up fast and if you're trolling, then you run the risk of tangling into the parts.

With the motor I'd launch from bayside, nice and calm, and enter the ocean by the jetty. That way no risk from waves crashing on top of you during the launch.

Less is more

True, that's why it's easier if you only have one outrigger...then you don't stand. An outrigger is good if you're out alot when it's rough...or if you want to go faster with a skinnier hull beam.

For standing, I'd use outriggers when working shorelines, either in rivers, lakes, bays, or other relatively calm areas. I'd say that fly fishermen are prime targets for this kind of fishing. Most other fishermen can fish sitting down.

That yak looks interesting. Make sure you register it if you run a motor.

Will do. Thanks for the tips guys. I just registered on the KFS forum and they have a direct supply store for all hardware and miscellaneous supplies. Im in the San Gabriel Valley so Im not aware of any Kayak supply stores or even any Marine supply shops. I might have to venture out to the OC to find a decent place to window shop and get some ideas of what i might need.
