Ummm...I vacillating back an forth on the topshot thing, but for party boats I'd put on a topshot of 100 yards. If you have spectra as your main line, you'd better be watching your line well when your bait is swimming. People get pissed off when you saw them off. With light flouro and flouro-spectra setup, I'd sometimes snap that flouro if the fish hits close to the boat. That's why that blackwater stuff is nice, because it has a bit of stretch to it.

Oh and good luck on the trip...as you've probably been told, your 500 is more than sufficient. If you have an SL20, that's actually probably sufficient for most of the fish. The 500 can handle the rest.

For your rods, I like longer...but don't use the upper rating on the rod as your working weight. if your rod is rated 15-20-30, then you should count it as a 20 lb rod.

Trigger sticks are great for casting, but you can't use a belt with them.

Once again, have fun

Cool thanks Ray! Yeah I have the 500 spooled with the 30 lbs and I have a few other smaller Penn's to put the 20lbs and 25lbs onto. I have about 4 rods I can use on the trip a couple being in the 15-30 range and 1 or 2 in the 20-50 range. And a useable izorline belt I got somewhere...

Not sure what to troll yet if I do at all, did some digging and found some sizeable Rapala's and a couple Yozuri Hydro Squirts.

After going through my gear I am starting to relize I need to stop going to Garage sales and tackle sales and start fishing more instead! Hope this trip goes through but if not atleast I know what to have and what I aleady have if the Hookups gang does a get togeather.

Cool...you know you can get a spare spool for your 500, for cheap, and fill that spool with backup line, if you need it. I like having 40# as a backup, but you probably won't need it and it sounds as though you have your range covered. If you have a spare setup, I'd bring 15# but don't break that out unless you have to...deckhands get pissed off if you use 15# and can't land the fish quickly, but sometimes that's all they'll bite...going to a long 15# leader might be a good compromise, if you want to plan for 15#. Just a thought

Don't bother buying trolling stuff. Let the boat handle that.

taco stoled my dorado, by pushing me off to the side, when he saw it jumping.
