Paper or Plastic?

Here is an issue we should all be concerned about. When you go to the grocery store, buy your stuff, the cashier dude will ask you, "Do you want paper or plastic bags". Well, here are some things you should think about.

When you ask for plastic, consider this. Plastic is made from oil, and in 100 years or less, there will be no more oil in our world. Plastic is also non-recycable, so whenever you buy plastic, another plastic bag cannot me made from one that has been used before.

When you ask for paper, consider this. Paper is obviously made from trees, and to make a lot of paper you need a lot of trees. When you chop down trees that have been growing for years, its hard to replace them. When you destroy trees, you also destroy habitats and homes for animals. Not to mention, it also limits the supply of oxygen in the atmosphere.

So, next time you're at the store, will you get paper or plastic?

I always ask for paper, as most places now use recycled paper, and we always recycle ours.

the issue with trees being cut down is not that big because for every tree cut down there is another planted to replace it. and another thing is they dont cut down slow growing trees

My grandpa was the vice president for federal paper company for umpteen years, and when his company would cut down a tree, they would plant a new one. So with that i would say that paper is better. But i like plastic better because its much easier to carry.

Plastic bags can be recycled by not only using them over and over again but most grocery stores now have a bag recycle drop off area in the store. I use my old grocery bags for trash bags, laundry bags, I carry some of them with me fishing to transport my fish from the lake to a cleaning facility etc.

Go to Costco and stock up. They don't have any bags! You'll be lucky if they give you a box. Go home and make about 30 trips back and forth to unload your vehicle.

Just buy your own canvas bags. Easy to carry handles, last for years. When they wear out, use them for fishing rags.
