Can someone explain
the ground fishing regulations to me? Do we have closed seasons here in California? If so, what do the party boats fish for? I can't seem to get any updated info.

as far as i know, THEY CLOSE THE CHANNEL ISLANDS ON JAN TO MARCH.
certain areas and species are restricted, but dont know about ground fishing.

99% of the time you wont have to worry about closed seasons.
The Sierras are closed from November to April. Rockfishing has some weird rules (only concerns you if you're a boatowner) Lobster are only in season during the winter (Oct to March i think.) Other than that, you can fish for whatever you want. No need for a license if you're fishing from a pier, or a jetty. However, you'll need a fishing license to fish anywhere else.
