Fishing w/out license
Went out fishing with girlfriend saturday and sunday in H B harbour by Pch bridge caught a few bass and halibut.
The question i have is there was a boat fishing about 20 yrds from me on sunday 5 adults and 1 kid. Not one adult was sporting a fishing license as per D.F.G regulations it was about 6.00 pm should i have called D.F.G would they have come out.

Nice fish! That butt looks legal, how many inches? As for DFG, you should have called, though chances are they wouldn't have come.

Nice catch!
I agree with Mickey on this one, even if they don't show, it's a good idea to call.

My Son works in Newport on Balboa island and fishes all the time after he gets offf work. He told me the Sherrifs department is now checking licences. you proably would have better luck flagging down the harbor patrol.
I saw a guy one morning with 200+ small bonita in LB harbor. I told him he was breaking the law and he told me to F-off. I saw the DFG and waved them down. I could tell they were not going to go and find the guy so I insisted they do. I ended up having them follow me back to this guys boat. It was great watching them put the cuffs on him.

Success stories, ugh I love 'em! Kudos for teaching this bunghole a lesson. We need more anglers like yourself out there. Thanks for the heads up.

I kayak without a shirt, so if I have a licence around my neck it would leave a sexy tan on my chest. Diss me if you guys want but I carry mind about half of the time due to convenience. I know the law, but when I am fishing, I do not want anything swinging, flopping, or tangle. I have bitched on this site about poaching and how the DGF should work harder to inforce these laws. The fact is that they rather go after people who are surf fishing after beach hours, float tubing in the mid night, or fishing on the pier after hours. All these things are my rights as a tax paying adult, but no not in there eyes. We are the real law breakers, not the guy with the 200+ fish. F the DFG. Stock the park lakes, update puplic fishing events on thier site. They won't. Come on, 200+ fish OK he got what he deserved, but a group not displaying thier licences. I have crap in the sea, clean fish in the harbor, and fished on private properties. Turn me in.

WTF?! Am I missing a joke here?
Personally, I always sport my license - surf or boat. However, I have noticed that on cattle boats usually about 70%-90% of the anglers DO NOT wear their licenses in plain view. I chose NOT to follow the norm. I say to myself, that one day I'll be laughing my @$$ while 90% of the boat gets tickets & I stare as I fish the spot.
But that's just me. I like following regs. Better safe than a sorry rebel funding others' joys.

I know Mick, you are right. I have been on the bad side with the DFG so this why I feel so negative about them. I have debated with them about everything I can and you know what, they don't know a$$. Why are fishing license paper base? It should be plastic. For $45, this should be no problem. I have gotten mine wet and the ink started to bleed. This is also why I don't carry one when I am on a boat or kayak. I CR all the time. I have bitched at others for not conserving, but like I said I am bad in other's eye so who am I to rat them out. We all have stories about DFG Fing people over about measurments and technicalitys. It is a game to MOST of them, a power trip. So once again F them. I will continue to try to educate others about conserving and how to fish smarter for the sport. I was one of those guys with no license, but a good friend opened my eyes to a great sport of fishing. Most of them just need time and understanding.

Guess you could go the extra mile and pay 50¢ at staples to have it laminated (keep the bleeding from happening) or just write your info using permanent marker rather than ink.
I hear you about DFG & their practices, but I like to educate by modeling proper C&R as well as setting the example by always sporting my license.
Not too long ago I got some buddies of mine into fishing. They started in piers, worked their way into jetties and now they're hooked on the surf, but not without a license thanks to the proper advice. Teaching responsible fishing & seeing it in practice is a wonderful thing. Gives me hope that some day my kids will have a shot at the same fish I did.

Got to remember one important thing, its not about enforcing the law on an equitable basis its all about the MONEY $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Surf and Pier fishermen are easy pick'ins, they enforce the technicalities on the most available and rake in the cashola. I agree with Mick, its best to just go along with the laws and keep their tricky little fingers out of your shorts. It becomes a matter of keeping yourself from being victimized.

Here is what I do with my license, I copied mine on the home ink jet printer and made several copies. I glued the front copy to the back copy and cut it out with some scissors. I keep them in the cheap vinyl holders in my off shore bag, my fly fishing vest, my fresh water bag, and keep the original in my wallet. I got tired of getting down to the water and realizing I had left my "Real" license at home in another tackle bag. I got stopped in Lone Pine this summer and was asked to see my license and pulled out my wallet and handed it to the DFG officer. He asked what I had pinned to my hat and I explained what I had done. He said he was not sure if that was legal but thought it was a pretty good idea. I guess if you get a real jerk he could write you up for not displaying your real license. I’m willing to take my chances.

California DFG has some ridiculous laws and some outrageous fines for braking some of these laws. The must be visible law is one of them! I'm guilty of fishing without my license with me much less visible. I like to play it safe for the most part. But sometimes it gets left behind and I decide to take the chance. If an officer was to walk up to me doing his job and write me a fine. I could take it a lot better than say someone couldn't mind his own business and reported me. That would call for initiation of the witness protection program.LOL
I'm not saying that there's never a valid reason to make the call. I'm simply saying to use better judgment on the severity of the law being broken.
...... that's my

Its the blatant discrimination against fishermen is what gets me. Why don't people driving a car have to have thier license stuck to thier fore heads so passing Polica can see if you are legally driving a car . Or why don't your Dentist or Doctor have to have their licence hung around their necks so we can be sure we are not being treated by quacks. I could go on and on. Think about it.
