San Francisco Ocean Fishing Reports 6/8/06
Golden Gate: You could have taken your little private boat out the Gate
on Wednesday, but there probably are more efficient means of bowing out
of this world. Fortunately, there were no private boats. What there was,
dawn to dusk, was a more than 20-knot blow tattering the sea, whipping
the coast. The boats that went were the pros, the party-boat fleet, and
even within their lengthy ranks, willingness was divided. Some made it
as far as Muir Beach, looked at the ocean around them and the misery
ahead, and decided our little slice of the North Side was enough to stop
on. The rest, four boats, went nearly to where they wanted to be, high
up the Marin Coast, then offshore of Point Reyes Buoy. It was a
2-plus-hour run. It was all wind and sea. In the end, it seemed worth
it.
The New El Dorado III, whose roaming skipper found the fish up there
early last week, boxed 13 limits to 25 pounds, while the New Seeker had
15 limits to 22 pounds, C Gull II 12 limits to 22 pounds, and the
Butchie B, which cut out for home a little early, boated 18 salmon to 22
pounds for 11 customers.
Closer in, between Muir Beach and Rocky Point, there are reports from
two boats. The Hog Heaven, working in tight to Rocky Point, had 11
salmon to 20 pounds for 10 anglers; Outer Limits nine to 18 for 15.
Red herring: As part of the negotiated and renegotiated 2006 salmon
season, we recreational types agreed to give up four days of fishing,
the second Monday and Tuesday of both June and July. And that give-up is
upon us. If you're out fishing Monday and Tuesday, chances are you will
be an easy spot for the game wardens doing the watching.
Other places: Bodega Bay's Will's Bait and Tackle has kept its
salmon-chasing six-pack boats tied up, as the wild zephyr works over the
bay and offshore
