Central Coast Area Ocean Report 6/8/06
PACIFIC OCEAN
Robert Gallia said the weekend salmon fishing above Pt. Reyes continued
to produce limits for the Berkeley fleet. The big bite shows no signs of
slowing down as the area of fish and feed extends the length of 10 Mile
Beach along the 40 phantom line. The large area of salmon have been
feeding on medium-sized anchovies or sardines, between 40 and 60 pulls.
On Tuesday, with only five fish aboard at 12:30 p.m., Gallia navigated
around the Pt. Reyes light. After two hours, they caught 30 salmon up to
27 pounds. The salmon seem to be stacking up right at the corner and
with a northwesterly breeze, they should end up in Drake's Bay by the
weekend.
Diana Nunez of reported good salmon mooching aboard the New Golden Eye with Capt. Trung Vo. Beginning last
Friday, the boat cruised eight miles southwest of Pt. Reyes where 14
anglers caught 28 salmon up to 20 pounds. The boat continued salmon
mooching on Sunday, going further north to 10 Mile Beach and finding
pools of calm dark waters where the salmon were feeding on sardines. The
27 anglers caught 50 king salmon with the largest weighing 37 pounds. On
Saturday, the Golden Eye 2000 with Capt. Quan Vo also traveled north to
10 Mile Beach where 28 anglers caught 36 salmon weighing up to 18
pounds.
