poke poling

Someone told me today about this thing called poke poling. Anyone know anything about it? It sounds hella fun! somthing about a hook in your pole and then you poke under rocks and stuff when it's low tide and catch stuff! I wanna go do this this weekend! Maybe halfmoon bay!

You usually have a strong sturdy stick like around 7-15'.Attached to it is something like mono or wire with a size 2-4/0 hook. Use shrimp, squid, abalone, anchovy.. anything basically that they are feeding on in the area. You poke the stick into crevices and cracks and shift the stick around. If there is a eel or fish, they will be aggresive because its their home and you will be able to feel a bite. Some people have their own pokepoling stick made from fiberglass or graphite but most people use cheap ones that you can make. The most common I've heard of is a wooden stick (A mop or broom handle) and attached to it a coat hanger (All pulled out) attached to a hook. Personally, I would use like.. 25 or 30 lb mono..

GL when you go

It is mostly used for "Food fishing" for eels.

Tony, I know I'm cool and you wanna be me but you can't be me!!!

hahah. I'm just kidding. I was just thinking wouldn't it be fun, that we go do the Pismo beach thing, during the day you surf fisher people can fish the surf, i'll build the sand castles, then the next morning when it's low tide we go out and dig the clams and poke poling, then after that's all fine and done, we have a huge ### clam bake and fish bbq! MMMMM good eats!

Now that's a more than decent idea. Claming and surf fishing and then in the evening have a fish fry and clam bake. Unfortunately; in Pismo, there's not too many places I can think of for poke poling.
