Mammoth lakes 4th of July
After a few months of fishing withdrawl symptons, I decided to take a drive on Tuesday evening to Mammoth. I arrived at Rock Creek Lake around 5:30. Weather was perfect. A little chilly early in the morning, but it warmed up by mid morning. Water temperature was 56 degrees. Trout were feeding on the surface and not too many insects flying around my head. I float tube until 10, when the bite stopped to a crawl. The only thing bitting were these 7 to 8 inch trouts. After 9 of these I called it quits and moved to Lake Mamie.
The lake only had a few anglers on the shore and maybe 3 float tubers. The trouts at lake Mamie were a little bigger, but it took a while to land fish. Last year you could see fish all over the place, but this time it took me a while to find a good spot. I managed 10 fish and kept 4 (gut hooked). All fish were caught on power worms and split shot.
Overall I had a good trip. I even made on time to see the fireworks at home. Fishing was slower than usual but fun.
