Rod goes swimming

The wife and I went Salmon fishing on the Sac sunday. Not many fish in yet, water temp is down to 61-62. There is alot of water flow.
This fishing trip became the saddest trip I have ever been on
It all started when we left the house in Grass Valley appon reaching Reago Rd and 99 I realized I left the Sardines at home in the freezer so we located a store to buy some, once we arived at Verona we started to do our drift, I didn't pick up any fish on the finder untill we hit the I-5 bridge there I had a hit I then decided to make anthor pass under the bridge as doing so I got snagged up turned the boat to free the snag the current pushed the boat sideways and pulled alot of tention on line had to reach down to turn motor back into current the rod slipped and pulled right out of my hand, there went my new G-loomis and my Calcuta TE Reel ($700.00) Then while trying to see if I could snag the line with my wifes Pole I snapped the tip on her Lamiglass.
I have in all my fishing years never thought this would or could happen to me: (

I hate it when that happens

I know someone who had a thousand dollar setup pulled out of his hands, thats partly why I never tighten up my fly rod drag too much.

The TE is a sweet reel...oops! shoudln't have mentioned that

I have a lamiglass that I plan to use below Nimbus either the 3rd or 4th week of October or the 3rd AND 4th week of October, and possibly above Nimbus one weekend in November. It's much lighter than the lamiglass casting rod that I used to whomp some salmon on last year (that one was a 10 ft Xtra Heavy) and I'm anxious to see how it works out

I hope your wife's Lamiglass is repairable, and please let us know when the Salmon start showing up in force

Suggestion: I see some russian guys dragging a grappling hook in the river and they pull up gear, maybe that might work if you go back before your rod gets covered up in muck?

I've actually rescued someone who dove in after his rod. I dont' think he was a strong swimmer, and his boat was doing the "death circle" away from him...but by golly, he had the rod in his hand when I pulled him from the water...but it looked like he was going to go under...he was out there for awhile and hadn't done anything except tread water...then had to chase down his boat before it grounded itself on the rocks (remember it was circling). So I'm not sure that diving is good for everyone

I've actually had a friend yell for the net, and I've learned that in certain situations you just comply and ask questions later...his rod had jumped over the gunwhale (side of the skiff) and into the water and he managed to snag the handle of the the reel...we tend to run light line and light drag so the fish was still on he landed it

wow that sucks big time...

last year at the dana point kayak tourney, a professional guide lost 3 setups when his bait tank pumped snagged a lobster buoy. He rolled his yak and lost everything (no leashes)....

I don't know if a grapling hook would have worked, I spent 2 hours dragging my anchor around the area.
My wife and I went to Fishermans Warehouse to get her Lamiglass fixed it only broke 2 inches off the tip so we had them put a new tip on for now. while we are in there she bought me a new TE reel, she was going to get me a new rod but they were out of them. the people there are great they didn't even charge me for the repair. I think my wife got tired of seeing a grown man cry!
