I wanted to leave my house by 11:00PM Thursday night but thanks to two very funny episodes of Futurama on Adult Swim I did not leave until after 11:45...
After hitting some CalTrans work on the 91, 15 and 395 I finally arrived in Bishop at around 6:00AM
Friday morning and headed up to Intake II. I waded out onto a penensula at the creek inlet and fished for three hours for not even a single bite so I decided to move and on the way I hit a few spots on the creek above the lake and caught three stockers on a White jig to get the skunk off.
Moved over along the dam and got three more stockers from the pipe area on the same jig and one on salmon eggs before moving over to the deeper section at the other end of the dam.
Got two more in this area on the White jig and decided to call it quits but while crossing the bridge above the dam I noticed some fish in the pool on the river below the dam so I slid on down the hill to give it a shot.
Fished the pool(s) at the bottom of the dam for six more stockers and two Brown trout before calling it quits. Headed over to the South fork of Bishop creek for seven more stockers and another Brown before realizing what time it was and hitting the road.
After stopping at the grocery store I headed up to Mammoth to meet with Tony and the rest of the guys but they were out running around so I went and picked up my regestration package at Whisky Creek and then headed over to the creek off of Old Mammoth Rd. for another Brown and a very skinny stocker.
Saturday we all got up at the crack of dawn and after a great breakfast made by Tony we headed up to float tube Twin Lakes for a few hours. The only thing I caught on Twin was a small Tui Chub, John caught a few stockers and a nice Alper before the crowd showed up and the bite shut down so we headed over to fish Mamie.
I did not feel like fighting the wind any more so I fished from shore near the outlet/spillway and was able to pull five stockers out of the creek before the water fall, I also caught a really nice wild Rainbow from this pool that was a nice surprise.
After Mamie we headed over to Mary where everyone launched their tubes again except for me, I found a quiet little cove with a creek inlet and fished from shore again. I got three stockers and two beautifull Brook Trout from this cove all on various jigs I made.
Sunday we headed up to the June lake loop and started tubing at Gull lake, this turned out to be a really good idea as the bite was quite good due to the schools of hungry trout running along the weedline. I got I think around 10 trout and farmed another five or six, I also got three Sacramento Perch which was a first for me.
After Jon got done dealing with the trouble of catching a tagged fish the bite had slowed down so we decided to move over to Silver lake.
The wind was much worse there and as a result the fishing was tougher by a lot, I was only able to get two trout from Silver before we called it quits.
After that we split into two groups and did different things, Mark, Gary and I hit some of the creeks above Silver and I ended up getting three Brown trout including a nice 13 incher which I kept.
On the way back to Mammoth we stopped at Mammoth creek below 395 and I scored another five stockers but it was soon too dark to tie on a hook so we called it quits.
Monday having caught no tagged trout I decided to head for home and stopped to fish Convict creek along the way again with Mark and Gary. Fishing was tough here as well but I was able to get ten stockers (kept five), three small Brown trout and four small wild rainbows.
The drive home was long and hot, lots of traffic and lots of idiots who seemed to enjoy placing their lives and the lives of others at risk just so that they could get a couple of car lengths ahead of where they were.
I stopped in Bishop for lunch and a little shopping at Culver's before leaving at around 1:00PM, I did not get home until just before 8:00PM, took a two hour nap and went into work.
I am already looking forward to next season as I hope to go up four or five times...:fingers crossed:
