Kern River 4 - 12-14 - 06

Well. Went to Kern River with my dad for 3 days. The weather was sunny but really windy. We tried Isabella with the boat and results were 2 8 inch trout... and I also heard bass are good at Isabella so I just bought a Strike King buzz bait and tried that out. I was fishing it in the weeds near the mouth of the river and I got a 7 inch bass.

2nd day we just fished the parts of the river and didnt catch a thing.

3rd day we fished Boulder Gulch from shore.. TONS of dead dried fish. White crappie, small catfish, mostly carp. It was sick. The crappies went up to 12" and the carps went up to more than 16". Anyways, we saw a large trout cruising by and it followed my kastmaster but didnt bite.. damn. We also saw some jumping carp and a couple of egrets. It was cool.

Later we decided to fish right before the bridge into kernville. Some people told me to go there that I had met in King Harbor. It was raining and I fished bait and caught nothing. Used a bobber still nothing. Then I switched to a 1/4 oz Thomas Buoyant. I didnt expect to catch anything cuz it was so big but then I got a hit and turned out to be a 14" trout. Not even that far from the edge of the river too. I lost that lure to the plants and then I tied on a couple other lures then I tried a panther martin spinner and I hooked up onto a 12"er. Afterwards I lose that one to a tree from bad casting and then I switched to some other spinner forgot the name and I used different ones of that company and caught 3 more which were 13" 13" and 14".

These ones were really large compared to what I usually catch in the river. I also usually fish above the dam near fairview camp. Anyways, thats all the fish I got because later I ate and left so yep. Pics will come soon.

Wowser, nice report. when do you guys decide to change a lure or a bait? sounded like you changed it every hour! I usually stick to just one bait, my worms and then sometimes the brush hogs and thats it. I always like to move around where I fish than to change what I'm fishing with. I think only because it's easier
