Central Coast Lake Reports 12/1/05

THE LAKES
LAKE CHABOT, CASTRO VALLEY: The staff at Lake Chabot reported that trout
fishing is great, with many limits pulled out by both bait anglers and
trollers. The hot spot is Raccoon Point. Bait anglers should use
PowerBait/Power Eggs, and trollers should use a Rapala firetiger. No
bass were caught this week, but catfish still can be had in Bass Cove or
Honker Bay on liver or mackerel.
LOS VAQUEROS, BRENTWOOD: The staff at Los Vaqueros said reports of trout
being caught from the shore have remained largely the same. Positive
things are being heard about the Rock Wall and that general area. There
have been some limits reported, but anglers are mostly leaving with 2-4
fish per rod. The best bait is a nightcrawler and marshmallow
combination.
There was good success trolling for trout, with a few boats catching
fish on nightcrawlers. The majority of boats trolled the eastern
shoreline with Kastmasters or watermelon-colored Needlefish and reported
limits.
There were some nice bass catches this week. It's hard to determine how
long the strong bite (both striper and largemouth) will continue, but
it's worth noting for now. The rock wall and the nearby ADA dock have
been steady producers. The only bait reported as working was
nightcrawlers, but it seemed to be enough.
LAKE DEL VALLE, LIVERMORE: The staff at Lake Del Valle said trout
fishing is very good. Bait anglers should head toward the narrows. Most
of the fish are shallow, so cast close and use an 18-inch leader or
less. White Power Balls are the ticket.
The bass bite also has been good, but they are taking smaller baits.
Split shot a small plastic worm and work it very slowly. Put it in front
of their face and keep it there. Hot spots include the narrows, just
north of the islands and the dam. The catfish bite has been slow early
in the day, but it picks up about 4:30 p.m. Anchovies are the favored
bait, along with livers and sardines.
