Suisun - Delta Report 11/10/05

Suisun-Delta: Waiting for word from here, but so far all we're hearing
is silence, broken by a few bitter words about the poor tides. The
California Dawn, back to winter mode and running out of Martinez,
actually ran down bay Tuesday to fish San Pablo Bay. The boat set up at
Buoys 5 and 6, and the catch was 23 leopard shark for 20 anglers. Fair
fishing, skipper James Smith called it ... Getting to the Barry Canevaro
report: He was out Monday, with a charter of six, and the sturgeon
bit/slurped all day, slow tides and all. Problem was the shaker
sturgeon, which were lousy thick. As it was, he did best on the rods
baited with chunks of lamprey eel. For the day: seven sturgeon (three
keepers to 57 inches) and a 14-pound striped bass. Barry's top spots are
around Roe and Ryer Islands, in the Middlegrounds. As for the weak
tides, they built some pull Wednesday and continue to grow through the
weekend ... Now skipper Steve "Flash" Talmadge: Actually, there isn't
much from the skip, except that he just returned from a too-long
long-range trip out of San Diego, and that his boat set a record for
largest number of large tuna caught. More locally, he gets back to
fishing Friday morning, and is booked through the weekend ... Not much
in the way of fishing news from the Delta, mainly because of all the
grass fouling lines. The trollers have done well back in Steamboat
Slough, though.
