Mammoth area quick report 07-27/07-29-07

Boated Convict Lake Friday morning for the big "El Skunko!" but was able to C&R six or seven stockers out of the creek. Hit up the rented condo in Mammoth at around 3:00PM for lunch and a nap and then went and fished the creek in town for another four or five stockers.
Saturday we slept in a bit so we did not get on the water until noon, tubed Sotcher lake until the wind kicked us off at around 3:30 for ten very nice stockers. After a $6 dollar milkshake in the Red's Medow Cafe we hit the San Juaquin river in the Pummice Flat campground for another dozen stockers and a half dozen Browns.
Returned to the San Juaquin on Sunday morning to fish the Upper Soda Springs campground and then headed to Bishop in the afternoon.
Fished various spots on the South Fork of Bishop creek for another dozen stockers and a few nice Brownies.
No big Alper's this trip, a few 1-2 pound "super stockers" were had all around and the big fish of the weekend went to my sister who scored a three pounder out of the San Juaquin on Thursday before I got there.
Fish were very spread out and water levels are a bit low so the water is moving slow and the moss is starting to grow pretty thick.
The fish in the lakes are very deep and the fish in the rivers are hiding under overhangs and brush.
Sorry no pictures cause I kept leaving my cell phone in the car...

Thanks for the report! Glad you were able to make another trip up there. Where did you stay? When you heading back up?

Great report. Lake fishing has been very slow for most people I talked to. One day I will try fishing the streams.

Cool, thanks for the report. I can understand about the pics. What were you fishing, though. Bait, flies, spinners, trout worms? thanks

That's a shake... that's milk and ice cream.
That's six dollars? They don't put bourbon in it or nothin'?

stayed in a rented condo, bears are a major problem up there right now, they are even hitting dumpsters in town. I have campsite reservations for the June Lake loop Labor Day weekend (for "Troutstock") but I may be canceling them.
