Salmon Runs

Does anyone know when the salmon will be running in Northern California. Was just talking to one of my friends who said salmon fishing is unreal when the season comes around. Sure beat 1-2 pound trout!

well, ive never fished in northern california, but ive fished in oregon for salmon. In oregon, two great salmon fishing rivers are the Rogue River and the North Umpqua.

I think the Sacremento river has some salmon too but im not sure.

Thats as much as i know, sry i cant be more of a help.

Yeah, I've heard the salmon fishing is awesome! I know the steelhead are running in Northern California right now and those fish would be a blast too!

Ocean... Fort Bragg season opened last week, the rest of our area will open April 17. The river doesn't open till later, around June I think.

Yah salmon are pretty fun, but I like hooking 5-10lb rainbow trout!lol
I think it was the sacramento river that I saw people fishing for salmon on tv. They faired out pretty well. Yah if you get up there take some pictures even if you dont catch anything, which I doubt. You are gonna hook some!

Bryan:

The best time is from the last week of Sept thru the month Oct. I usually go from Rio vista north about half mile to the mouth of the Mokelumne river. go up river pass Viera's resort up to Isleton all aroung that area. You can stay at any of the camping resorts along that area some have motel like rooms. Bring Wiggle Wart ( Large) or the big Blue Fox lures. I usually have good luck with the blue/silver W/W. If you want details about Delta fishing check Deltachamber.org. Hank

Yeah wiggle warts, hot shot's and blue fox spinners are very deadly baits for those salmon. We have had luck using hot shots that are pink on the head of the bait and white on the rest. A hot shot is a wobbler like the wiggle wart and dives, just something about them that works better. They are manufactured from luhr jensen in Hood River Oregon. You might want to check into those also. The wiggle wart and hot shot might work out the same, just they are different body styles.
