Optomists find themselves disapointed more often than do Pessimists.

Possibly so but but an optomist can be "cautious" without being burdened with the spirit of pesimism. Optomists catch more fish lol

I dont see how you figure that!
An optomist will spend his day fishing one spot but having positive thoughts while I will go find the fish.

Not true. An optomist will fish the whole area with the belief that they will catch fish before the end of the day and if they're a good angler (which is all that matters), they'll probably catch fish. The difference is, they will leave the lake being happy that they had a good time outdoors regardless, as oppossed to a pesimist leaving upset and bitter, stressed and unhappy.
which one would you want to be?... ...anybody??

There's a chance I may be fishing Rock Creek this weekend. If you see a guy with a fly rod, surrounded by guys with spinning gear, and they're all catching fish...that probably will be me

You seem confused, I am pessimistic, not depressed, and actually I prefer to be called a Realist.
I show up to a body of water expecting to get skunked, be surrounded by loud annoying people and possibly experience some type of equipment and weather problem.(wind, rain etc.)
As long as everything does not go as expected I consider it a good day, If everything does go wrong I was expecting it and am not surprised or dissapointed. Just because I expect the worst from life does not mean that I hope for the worst and it does not mean that I dont enjoy the good times. You can continue to expect rainbows and butterflies everywhere you go if you want to but if you expect to get a little pie in your face now and then you wont be as pissed of when it happens.

That's a better description of you Russ(IMO).... a Realist ...... pessimistic individuals have no place around me. A realist is different than a pessimist (obviously). I would consider you a Realist to the max and there's nothing wrong with that. Realists bring balance to life...pessimists bring death to life (so to speak). getting a little pie in the face every once in a while is just a fact of life, and even optomists realize that, but it's what you do after you get hit with the pie that matters...an optomist would lick the pie off his face and say "tastes good"! and laugh about the getting hit part.

I disagree, a pessimist would actually expect that to happen and would try to duck or he would clean himself off with the towels he brought just for such an occasion and then he would be on the lookout for more pies. An optimist would be cought totally by surprise every time it happened because he was positive it couldnt happen again and he would be to busy looking for the good that he (or she) knows is deep down inside everybody. The pessimist knows that people suck!

I like the term realist as apposed to optimist. More of a balance I guess. Optomisticly for me when fishing I show up thinking I will catch fish, but if I dont I had a great time anyway. Realisticly when I fish I show up not only knowing I will catch fish but I will catch more than anyone else ....oh wait thats cocky and arrogant been told I have a little of that too.
