Welcome to the board. Nice size perch. I was expecting to see one sticking out of the hot pocket "insulating pouch" with a shot of Stoli to go along with it.

Welcome to the wonderful--and sometimes wacky--world of HookUp Sportfishing. I, too, mostly fish the surf--even though it's not exactly close to home--an hour or so away--and it's fun and cheap--you were right the first time I used to go out on the party boats a lot--spending money I didn't really have--experiencing mostly poor or mediocre fishing--captains too busy playing cards in the galley to find fish for their passengers--clueless deckhands who couldn't gaff a fish if their life depended on success--and boneheads(humans, not the fish)who don't pay attention to their line and end up snagging everybody on their side of the boat. And then there's surf fishing. Medium spinning reels spooled with 4 lb. test and attached to rods 8' or longer. Lots of Gulp! in the backpack, with the appropriate hooks and sliding sinkers. Of course, the initial outlay may strain the budget a bit, but after that--except for gas & munchies--it's almost a free ride. And definitely not as expensive as the sportfishing boats. Of course, the best part is that you are in charge
