Brownwood re-intro
O.K. I've been on this sight for some time now and I think some of you may have the mistaken impression that I know something about fishing. Let me set the record straight. I just started fishing last year (a few times ) and have been getting serious about this year ( damn striper comp ). I see posts about rods and reels.... st croooox, accurate (what, who ) 300... 500...this , that....what???. I have no high end fishing equipment yet. I own more Shakespear crap than I care to admit. Truth of the matter, I wouldn't know what the hell I'm buying and for what it's intended for. I do love to fish and after catching several stripers last year, I decided thats the game fish for me ( well that and catfish cause they are fun to catch and my wife loves them). So, I figure I need a few trips out with the MASTERS (you know who you are) and some helpful pointers to get things going in the right direction. Oh yeah, B/W I've never fished saltwater and can wait to try that (Mickey, Taco, Keene, and the rest). Now don't all start PM ing me at once, You know secret spots, best baits, special techniques. SPOOKY.... what's up with that Palmdale aqueduct spot, where??? Have not caught a striper out of the aqueduct yet, in 2 years.
p.s. If your wondering what the f#*K my avatar is,... it's a tatoo on my stomach with some hair extensions added, courtesy of my wife ( she's a hair dresser).

I havent touched the freshwater for almost a month! no help for you there unless you want some general info. Saltwater has been good if you're willing to go after tuna. Check out my reports for local fishing info (although, admittedly, there haven't been too many as of late).

if you are looking for great deals on tackle check out www.gofishin.com he gets close out lots and buys up tackle shops that have gone out of business. The average price on tackle is at least 50% off and 30% to 40% on rods and reels. I have bought tons of tackle from him and never been disappointed.

High end is nice, but as long as you fish you often you get a feel for what your equipment can do and how to fish them.
I started off with a $20 reel from Wal-Mart and $12 rod from Big 5, it was good enough to land yellowfin to halis. It's all practice and learning, asking questions is the biggest though.
On boats I'd buy a soda to all the people I bugged and asked. Ego is left at the door. Most anglers will readily help out.
Let me know if you want to hit the surf
Good luck with it all and the tat is cool. I want more

I did most of my fishing on the central coast lakes Bownwood. If you ever head that way, let me know and I'll be glad to PM you some info.
Central Coast Lakes = Lopez, Santa Margarita, Cachuma, Casitas, Nacimiento, San Antonio, etc.

Brownwood, so does it sound like you're trying to go Hybrid? You're finally ready for the salt?? Let me know when you plan on hitting the salt. There are so many options, as the coastline in CA is virtually endless.
You may wanna hit up Newport Harbor on a rental skiff. Hit me up and if I've got some free time I could join ya. Can't say I've got many strings to show you, but I'm willing to share the little knowledge I have.
Good luck tomorrow at Castaic with your wife. Whatever you do, don't introduce her to the "gang." She'll never let you fish alone again!
