New to the board

[limits]

Hello all.. I'm new to this board, but not so new to the sport. My name is Bernard and yes... I have a fishing addiction.

I've been fishing for about 10 years. Started in my college days, freshwater fishing... hooking up on trout. After about a year, a buddy of mine convinced me to go out with him saltwater fishing. Ever since then I haven't been back to a lake. I still remember trout fishing and buying jar after jar of Powerbait.

I do a lot of half day trips and some 3/4 day trips out of Davey's Locker. Occasionally I'll do an overnight. I would like to progress my career to do multi-day trips and some vacation trips to fish lower baja. But it's not really a career if you don't get paid to do it. So I'll just have to wait, save and save some more money... because this sport can be expensive!

I've joined this board because it sounds like you guys all know how to fish... I'm just here to learn and listen from the best of them. Thanks!

Glad to see you're on board(no pun intended)(that was original Huh?)
Any way, I'm a regular here at Hook Up but I've been off the board for about a month; really crazy with work! (that's what happens when you're a fishing addict as well as work in the sport fishing industry). Anyway, welcome!! I just wanted to tell you one thing in response to your introduction......True that offshore sport fishing can and does bring more action "per say" than does fresh water; however, don't knock the fact that fishing for Native California Rainbow trout, Brown, Alpers, or Spotted trout can be just as exciting and adventurous as hooking into a 25-40lb White Seabass believe it or not. The focus of the excitment has now switched though......Offshore, the majority of the excitement stems from the actual battle between you and the fish; where when river and/or stream and tributary fishing for these previously mentioned trout species, the excitement stems more from the satifaction of having the knowledge of actually being able to find a good and decent fish in these types of bodies of water, knowing how to present your fly(dry or wet), or your spinner, or your beaded worm troll, or your plastic trout worm, or spoon, or plastic egg sack, etc, etc., and when and where to cast your fly or lure so that your not just practice casting for nothing all day. I said all that to say this..............

Most of the regular forum members here at HookUpSportFishing.com are hardcore saltwater anglers; hell I've caught every salt water "game" species that you could think of off the top of your head... from Surf Perch, to Bonefish, to Tarpon, to Wahoo, to Pacific Sailfish, etc., etc. But most of the regular forum members will also not have a problem laying down thier Seeker 20-40's and thier AVET MXL6.1, for a weekend with thier 6ft 2-6lb St.Croix spinning rod and thier Shimano Symetre 1000R spinning reel, to hunt for monster Rainbows and Browns in the Eastern Sierras, Kern Rivers, or Yuba River or wherever monster Trout can be found lurking in four foot deep pockets in a rushing stream or river.

So like I said -"WELCOME" and please read all the forum topics closley; you'll find that one day we're all planning to get together for a day out offshore..and then the next, we're all planning a weekend run for the Eastern Sierras with our trout rods. The next time we do, you've gotta plan to come with us. Hope to fish with ya soon, wherever body of water that may be

well said, and what are we to do come winter? everyone write know is posting the saltwater stuff but in a month it will mainly be the same people posting their trout fishing treks

if i had to choose, i would throw freshwater fishing away in a second. but fortunatly i dont have to choose and i can fish both types of water

i would still take the 40 pound white sea bass over a native 2-3 pound rainbow but would take a 20 pound steelhead would be before a wsb but limits welcome to hook up

WHAT? you cant enjoy local saltwater fishing year round like you can the sweetwater, bass, trout, catfish, bluegill, crappie its all fun anytime of year dude! During the winter the saltwater shuts down, what are you going to do spend $28 to go on a half day boat and fish for sand dabs or Blacksmith perch? Dont get me wrong, I love saltwater fishing and I do it all summer long but if I was forced to make a choice I would have to choose the sweetwater just because it really is year round.

#1, i dont catfish so after june the FW fishing is pretty much slow till november. and bluegill and crappie are like perch anyway so it comes down to choosing LMBs or WSB.

If I was forced (gun to the head) to make a choice I would HAVE to pick freshwater, no matter how little time I have or how little money I have there is allways something to fish for in the local lakes or rivers. Saltwater is great but its not cheap, I could spend a week camping and fishing in the Sierras for the same cost of a two day trip on the saltwater.
