not really AROUND the world..

okay. so my dad and i are heading up to oregon for SURE on saturday, sunday, or monday. were planning on fishing a lake somewhere in north california and a bunch of trout in it now in oregon. its mainly salmon and stuff but can a 7 ft. trout rod handle a salmon? im thinking it would snap but just wondering. plus were bringing heavy duty stuff too. going for maybe some big salmon and sturgeon or tuna. do you guys know what to use for salmon and the sturgeon and walleyes etc.? hope global see's this..

i doubt you would find tuna up there. but for sturgean you really need a bigger rod. Also, some really good bait for sturgeon is rainbow trout, it doesnt have to be alive and you rig it with one hook through the nose and another threaded in till the back. As for salmon, it would be very fun to catch one on a trout rod though i doubt you can with 2# test or something so maybe change the reel or have an extra spool with something bigger...

The 7' rod could handle salmon, what weight range is it? But either way you have the right rod/reel since your bringing heavy duty stuff. If your going to tuna, will you be going with a charter? If so then they will have the gear for you and you will not need anything. I am not sure really what to use for them anyway. Same with salmon, guides and charters will have most everything for you. If you are going by yourself in rivers then here ya go:

-One great method is using eggs, the salmon love them in Oregon and a lot of people catch a bunch of fish on them. Ammermans is very good but just ask some people at a store.

-Corkies, which you probably know what they are work very well. Just tie your line to a snap swivel. Then slide on some corkies. From there tie on a leader that is about 18". On the same swivel slide on a slinky weight. Then just put on some yarn in the the bait loop righ above the hook.

-Spoons and spinners work great also. I prefer either Rooster tails or blue fox spinners.

Which salmon will you be fishing for? I have been using 30lb on the chinook in Oregon.

Actually tuna fishing has been great that past month. I have heard a lot of people catching a ton out there. Just from pacific city, people are chartering out and bringing a ton back. I am not sure for herring but we were using a mooching rig with pickeled herring. I got one big bite but wasnt paying attention. I have only been once for sturgeon.

I suggest going down to the wilson for some trout action also!

Well it was in Alaska for starters, I think you were thinking it was in Oregon. I was using some bait casting rod and reels and some fly outfits. It was a 8 weight fly rod.

You wont find tuna up there. If your rod is a good rod, then it will work.
