Back from Puerto Vallarta

I just got back yesterday from Puerto Vallarta Mexico (first time there).
I fished two 12 hour days (Saturday and Sunday).
We fished mainly the Banks, but what little action I had was in closer. Trolling with feathers and small Ahi lures among about 30,000 +
Dolphin (Porpoises). Seeing all those Spinning Porpoises was worth the trip. The video is a trip and my grand kids will love it.
Anyway; I took 6 nice Yellowfins between 20 to 60 lbs all under running with the Porpoises. We had a shot at some big one’s (saw some 200 lb + jumping) but never hooked up one.
The 60 ponder took me some time to get in, maybe an hour (TI30w standup) All the tuna were taken within the afternoon. We heard of only 1 billfish (a striped marlin) being caught.
The only other fish I took were 2 Mahi Mahi (20 - 35 lbs), both on big lures. I went there to only fish with lures and that’s what I did, no bait.
The only trouble with that was; the crew knew very little about trolling with lures, so I did most of the work (they should have tipped me).
It was about what I had expected this late in the season (fishing for Billfish), but I was fishing and in a place I had never been before so all was good.

Congrats on some nice size fish and a good time in a new place. Are there any pictures of your fish or anything or just the video? If you have pics, we're anxious to see them.

Hey Terry. Glad you had a good trip! Cannot wait for the pictures! Also, was there any issues with bringing your own tackle on board the plane?

Congrats on the catch! What'd you do with them? Eat 'em, ship 'em... Glad to hear you had fun fishing two days in a row.

Got a few questions for you. I'm also due to be out there during the month of July. Out of curiousity, did you have trouble taking your gear out there? Also, if you could do it all over again, would you opt to renting gear out there? Are gear rentals off the chart or affordable? Also, how was your experience with the guys you chartered with? Were they affordable, if so, how much...etc.

I'd like to plan out my stay as best possible. If you could help with some of my questions I'll be most appreciative.

Again, glad to hear you had some fun out there. I'm sure it felt nice fishing new territory.

I'm at work right now and running around from meeting to meeting. I’ll get back to you with a more detailed message later today. A couple of quick questions; what type of species are you targeting? what type of tackle do you have and would want to bring (this would depend upon what you are fishing for) (I travel with my tackle all the time, from AUS, Hawaii central America etc. so I have a lot of info on that) How many will be fishing on the charter? I fish primarily for billfish (Blues and Blacks) so I release all billfish. Any thing else I give to the boat (but that’s me).
As for renting tackle, all the boats have great tackle, it’s part of the charter price.
Maybe it would be better if we talked on the phone.
If you want send me an e-mail tkmcewen@yahoo.com and I’ll respond with my phone number.
