This trip is definitely for the "Core" mentality anglers which most of us are. Some of us are experienced traveling in Mexico to go fishing, some aren't. I guess what I'm trytin to say is it's not like crossing the north border into Vancouver, B.C. if you get my drift. It'll be fun though!

Hey Tony, been working working and working for past two months. Haven't had a chance to wet a line for a long time but now end of the year is coming up and finally able to start checking the site again. I don't have heavy saltwater gear but i will get a rig. Probably get a usable one for about 100 bucks right? Used of course maybe on ebay or at the swapmeet.

I wouldn't buy anything on ebay; not fishing gear or tackle, just my strong opinion. I would look into what some of the guys here on the board are will ing to trade or sell, or check the Recycler magazine. This way you can actually kinda check out first hand what you're buying.

The Stradic 4000 would be a great reel to take! Are you planning on using spinning gear or conventional gear???

Would you be taking a fly rod set up also?

Tell me how you wanna fish in terms of gear. We'll be on Panga boats both days as well as fishing the surf in the later afternoons early evenings.

I've bought alot of my gear off of ebay, just make sure you buy from a user who has a positive feedback of 98% or more.

unless it's lures or terminal tackle, I never purchase anything without seeing it/ touching it first hand, or if I get anything sent to me, I have to know the person.

Many reputable sellers use eBay to move their merchandise. If you auction wisely, you can seriously score on brand new gear. On the used stuff, always bid as if it's pig in a poke.
I've purchased some reels through private sellers, and I've done OK, but I usually buy used stuff when I'm intent on tweaking it into something better.

I definately can not go now. At 2am this morning I had a confrontation with some Mexican dude who threatened to beat me up with a hammer and kicked my door and put large dents in it. He blamed me for toilet papering his car when I didnt. Cops showed up too late and he was gone. Now I have to pay to have the dents fixed.
