East cape 9/2-5/05
The day finally arrived I was heading to East cape. I'd been checking the weekly reports and the fishing was the worst they've seen.
I was going with my wife, my brother and my cousin and his friend. They took a different flight than us and arrived acouple hours before us. When we got there they were already on the surf fishing. They'd caught 3 crevales.
The rest of the day we took it easy.
Day 2: Arrived at the dock around 6:00. Met the crew Capt. Gilberto and deck hand Chris on their boat Time Out. One of the best lookin boats out there 31 Blackfin. The bait sit. was awful they only hand macks.
Started heading about 20 miles out and started trolling. Within the first five min. hookup! My wife gets on the rod. She battles for about 30 min. Gets him in, her first sailfish. A 9'er. Not bad for small girl on a Torium 30. It's funny I've been fishing my whole live dreaming about catching a billfish and she just started a few years ago.
We start the troll again, about 30min. Another sailfish My brothergets on the rod. Nice battle, the fish spent more time out of the water than in. Gets him in a nice sail.
We find the porpoise and also found the tuna. I hook up on a cedar plug. MY first tuna ever, Unbelievable power. This fish is kicking my ###, plus it doesn't help that its like 100 degrees out. Finally get him in My biggest fish ever 60lber.
Anyways this tread is getting to long. My cousin, his friend, and my wife all caught 60lbers. We would have caught more but ran out of bait. Tried evey lure made, but they wouldn't hit. so we headed back early.
Total: 2 sails 4 YFT60-70lbs
BTW the crew was amazing never took a break and was constantly trying to get us on fish.
Day 3: Got a different boat today The Billfighter. Soon as we got on the boat and met the crew, we could allready tell it was going to be a different day. Headed 20miles in different direction even tough we told the to go the other way. Got to a spot fish for about 10 min.then had ingine trouble so we started heading back. but a 5m/hr. I took us about 3hrs just to spot land. Then another boat came and got us. By then it was allredy noon. Decided to fish inshore for dorados. I was the first one to hook up. my first dorado. My cousin gets one also. We head back. Fished for about an hour.
Soon as we get back we go and talk to Herman. Gives us a half day. no problem.
Total: 2 dorado
Day 3: We get a smaller boat this time the TIO TICA. My cousins friend decides to stay in this time out .
We were thinkingabout staying inshore and go for more dorados, but decide to go for some tuna. Good thing, because soon as we pull up to this spot about 10miles out. There tuna crashing the surface everywhere. only 25lbers but nobodys complaining. I flyline a 2" dine, THe bait sit was awful again only 2" dines or macks. I'm the first one to hook up get him to the boat after a tough 15min. battle only to have the deck hand try to grab my line with the gaff. Snap! Still the fish just sat here of a second and so did the deck hand.
I was pretty pissed to say the least. Next we get a triple hookup. My cousin and I get ours in my bros comes off. Basically We all caught fish and would have caught more if we had more 2" dines. They wern't hiting the macks. Headed inshore for an hour for some dorados. I hookup give the rod to my wife. Her first dorado. Overall an epic day with tuna crashing all around the boat. Double, triple and quadruple hookups. Not bad for a half day.
Total:11 YFT 20+lbs. 1 dorado.
Can't wait to go back. I learned a lot from this trip. Next trip should be even better. I've got a ton of pics enjoy

Good job on the dodo as well, when i was there they were no where to be seen and on my last day of sihing i spotted some 20 lber's close to shore but it was to late. Tell me when you plan on going next time, maybe i will meet you down there.

We got the big yft on flylined macks. They didn't even have any dines the first and second day. Maybe 2" dines on the third day. Are they always that small? They still worked awsome, suprisingly. If we would of had them on the first day we could have kept them around the boat.
