Hotel Punta Colorada 7-27 to 8-18

First off its always good to be down there.

The fishing was not as good as years past but still a good bite.

I fished everyday, i fished from boats about 10 times.

My first 6 trips out on the cruiser were with a guy and his son who invited me to go fish with them on the cruiser VODKA.
the first day we went north in hopes of some bottom fish but the skipjack were much to thick, we could have stayed there and slang them all the day, the problem was that the tuna bite was WAY south and we started north, didnt get much that day.
day 2 on the same boat was great we headed out to look for porpoise and were called in a good sized pod and we just put the hammer to them with the hoochies, black/purp was the ticket until noon then green/white killed them. we ended up with 17 tuna from football size to a 65lber we got a torium 40 with 40lb test, a little to much fish for that reel.
Day 3 on the vodka we went south in search of pargo and were payed handsomely, we slayed slayed them with cut macks, we got 11 for one days fishing, 11 pargo in days fishing is phenomenal for those who have never fished pargo, people fish all day for maybe 2 or 3. these were good sized fish to and the ones that got away.........even bigger.
Day 4 on the vodka was the marlin hunt, we ended up releasing two stripers and a 250 lb blue, one striper came on the black and purple lure and one striper and the blue ate the petrelero (a must have)
Day 5 was back out to the tuna grounds, same tactics for 16 tuna.
Day 6 was the whatever day, got two tuna, four pargo a few triigerfish and alot of cabrilla close to shore.

fished two days with a buddy who met me down there, fist day fished on the wahooIII and got 8 tuna on sardines, i went 3 for 3 with the two toads of the day.
Day 2 with my buddy was on the vodka and we got two sailfish and then had boat troubles.

i was supposed to go fish with my buddy again one more day but had another duty.

A friend of mine is a deckhand on the boat Amante and his uncle is the captain, his uncle never showed up for so my buddy, Pelon, went as captain and he asked me to be his deckhand, so off we went.

Fished a pod porpoise offshore for 4 tuna, would of had 8 but had some clients who were good farmers. they had a good day and tipped good but i let Pelon have it, he needed it more then i.

Fished one more day on a super panga, fished a tournament. it was a marlin tournament and we had one blue that came up in the pattern that would have gooten us first place for sure, it came up on the petrolero like a big blue submarine, quite a scene be he musnt have been very hungry because he sunk out, had one more strike and that was it.

Overall there were lots of tuna and lots marlin especially blues and big ones, the biggest i saw weighed tipped the scales at 570 lbs. very few dorado and scattered wahoo.

overall a great trip, no pics yet being as i just got back but soon enough.

Nice trip, but sounds like the bite has really slowed down. I headed down there on the Sept 2. I hope it picks up.

If you are headed down sept 2 i recomend you take some dark hoochies and some 8/0 hooks and 1/0 and 2/0. Also a petrelero color marlin lure.

they have some stuff, but it would be better if you bring some of your own stuff. for rods they trolling setups and terminal tackle they have the basics. and marlin jigs.

tournies down there are pretty cool, the one fished was known as the por mans bisbees, since the real bisbees was held a week before.

Basically you run up on the beach give the guy a hundred bux he rights down your name and you go fish until 4, then come back and party on the beach.

That sounds like the Sh#! Sounds great if I could ever get my A$$ down there! Fishing for me lately has been so infrequent it hurts, no I'm serious, it sounds dramatic but it's true. Having a new born is no joke.
