J.D. RICHEY SPORTFISHING Guide Service - Sacramento, CA

.
.
, based out of Sacramento,CA; is an established, licensed and bonded world class sportfishing guide service located in Northern California. The service offers year-round guided fishing trips on Northern California's American, Feather, Sacramento and Yuba rivers. takes great pride in providing the best service in the industry and it is our goal to make your visit with us more than simply a fishing trip – think of it more as a mini vacation and day-long adventure.
.
.
The guide service focuses it's operation on four major bodies of water located in the south eastern corner of Northern California. The target locations are the various stretches of the American River, the Feather River, The Yuba River and the Sacramento River. Though they are all located within a fair proximity to each other, each body of water is unique in many ways, and on many levels...........

.
The Mother of all salmon, striper, sturgeon, shad and trout rivers in California. This is the big one; fish it and you'll see why it's regarded as literally a 'Fish Superhighway'. The Sac is a travel corridor for huge runs of salmon, steelhead, striped bass, sturgeon and shad bound for the spawning grounds of countless tributaries, including the three other rivers (Feather, Yuba, and American).
Eventhough a good portion of the American runs right through the heart of urban Sacramento, one trip down the river is all you'll need to see that things are not what they seem. On the water, you'd swear you’re a million miles from civilization. It's one of the best King Salmon streams in the country. And since there's only 20 miles of river to fish, the kings really get kegged up in spots – good news for those of us who like to catch them! Steelhead, Shad, Striped Bass .....they're here too!
Due to the fact that it's difficult to access, the Yuba is a beautiful river that offers plenty of elbow room and top-rate fishing. It produces year-round fishing for wild rainbow trout that can sometimes top 20 inches..... it's also home to king salmon big enough to eat a trout of that size. However, it's the Yuba's plentiful runs of the hardest fighting 2-9lb. Steelhead that'll get you're blood pumpin'!
As the result of a very successful hatchery program, the Feather River is 'time after time' one of the best fisheries along the entire west coast. As many as 146,000 Salmon inhabit the Feather annually; and winter Steelhead and wild Rainbow Trout keep anglers busy until April, when an excellent Striped Bass fishery develops in the lower river.
.
.
Northern California is notorious for an extrememly wide array of freshwater gamefish that Southern California is unfortunately void of. focuses on putting sportfishing clients on top of many of these species. Though you are apt to catch many diverse species of game fish while on a guided trip with , it's the four main targeted species (featured below) that are focused on. And while being guided by , you'll be sure to get into one or more of these sought after bad boys...or girls.

California is home to some of the most prolific salmon runs on the
West Coast. The kings in our streams average 15-18 pounds, with
30 pounders not uncommon and fish as high as 50+ pounds are
taken each season. Most of our king fishing is done with conventional
gear, though fly trips are also available. At the right time of the year,
you can expect to get into King Salmon on the Feather, the American,
and the Sacramento Rivers with the Sacramento being the mother of
all King Salmon rivers in California.

When the Salmon begin to taper off....in come the Steelhead! Excellent and diverse
California Steelhead fishing opportunities abound in the rivers of Northern California's
Central Valley. A huge advantage to fishing these dam-controlled streams is that they,
unlike coastal rivers, rarely blow out – even during the heaviest of rain. Combined with
the fact that these rivers are easily accessed from places like the Bay Area and Los
Angeles, it's clear they are tough to beat. You can get your fill for Steelhead on the
American, Yuba and Feather Rivers.

Striped bass are one of California's favorite gamefish and it's easy
to see why. They can reach incredible sizes, are extremely aggressive
and fight as hard as just about any other freshwater fish you'll ever
encounter. Luckily, we have excellent Striper runs in several different
rivers. Depending on the location, Stripers from 4-8 pounds are average
hard fighting schoolie size but it's common to see them easily up to 50
pounds. Traditionally we find them at various times of the year in the
Sacramento, Feather and American Rivers.

Numbering in the hundereds of thousands, shad (3-6 pounds)
invade many of our Central Valley rivers in the spring and
provide outstanding fishing for fly and light spin anglers from
May through mid-July. shad fishing can be so good here that
your arms may give in well before the fish do; and don't worry,
100 fish days are not out of the question!

Chartering a guided fishing trip with gives you the options of venturing out via jet boat, drift boat, or bass boat. Either vessel is primed and prepared for anyone of the rivers that plays host to. All vesels are equiped with the appropriate saftey accesories and are sound/solid vessels that have taken on any and all of the available rivers provided through this service.
When it comes to drift boats, Willie drift boats
are the pinnicle, and
has one in thier fleet. If you've never taken a
guided drift boat fishing trip, you don't know what
you're missing! Holds up to 4 anglers.
Jet boating up and down a fish fertile river ...awesome!
Jet sleds can cover a great deal of surface area while
fishing large rivers.
utilizes a Smoker jet sled, accomodating up to 5 anglers.
