SC Guide Service reports - 10/27/06 (Klamath River)

Klamath River - October 27th, 2006

RECORDED: 75 °

FISHING: great

On Friday, the brothers McPhee (Bob and Dan) and I fished the Klamath River for Steelhead. We fished 40 miles downriver and found the fishing to be very good. We had steady action all day on half-pounders. Bob and Dan each landed one adult Steelhead with brother Dan taking the big fish honors. Dan landed a nice wild Steely that was over 20-inches and about 3 1/2 pounds. We used rebel crawdad plugs and hotshots with worms to land all our fish. We were the only boat on the water and the weather was just perfect. Check out the pics.........

*** Steelhead fishing will only get better as the Salmon start spawning, November, December, and January are some of the best mothes for steelhead fishing on the
Klamath. Very little pressure and lots of good hard fighting fish.

SC Guide Service reports - 11/12/06 (Klamath River)

Klamath River - November 12th, 2006

RECORDED: 45 °

FISHING: good

I have been fishing clients on the Klamath River for the past three days and found the Trout fishing to be excellent. Adult Steelhead on the other hand were very hard to come by. I was part of a four boat group that fished the River from Thursaday to Saturday. My boat alone caught and released close to 150 Trout, in the 6 to 16-inch range.

The numbers were similar in the other three boats. As for adult Steelhead, that was another story. Our group averaged about one adult Steelhead per boat a day.
The biggest Steelhead caught was in the 4 to 5 pound range. We tried just about everything in the tackle box (bait, flies, plugs, spinners) to get the bigger fish
but they just were not co-operating. We drifted from the hatchery to klamathon bridge each day. The weather is very cold and wet right now which may have had a
hand in the slow Steelhead fishing. We are seeing freezing temperatures throughout the nights and early mornings and snow in the higher elevations. Steelhead
fishing will get better as the weather stabilizes and the more fish move up river to spawn. Although the weather was on the cold side we did have sun in the
afternoon and hardly anyone is out fishing.

SC Guide Service reports - 11/21/06 (Eagle Lake)

Eagle Lake - November 21th, 2006

RECORDED: 45 °

FISHING: great

Eagle Lake is producing some nice Trout right now. Guy Ives and I fished for 4 days at Eagle Lake last week (Thursday to Sunday). We landed 28 out of a possible 44 Trout (3 to 5 pounds) over the four days. Trolling Rapalas and Sep's dodgers (smeared with Pautzke Krill paste) with worms or flies worked the best for us.

The Trout are still somewhat scattered around the lake; the Airstrip, Eagles Nest, and the Youth Camp areas were all good. Many of the fish are moving into the shollow
water and up into the tullies as they look to spawn and feed on Tui Chubs. The weather was pretty good, for this time of year. We only had to deal with some nasty fog one day, that required GPS to navigate. The other days were a mix of cold temperatures, clouds, wind and Sun. All normal for this time of year. Eagle Lake will be open until the end of December so now is the time to go.

Klamath River - December 21st, 2006
RECORDED: 30 ° FISHING: Great
Freezing weather doesn't stop the Steelhead fishing. The Winter Steelhead fishing on the Klamath River (Hornbrook area) continues to be very good despite temperatures in the teens. On Tuesday, my clients (Allison and her 11 year old son Lance) landed a dozen fish. We ran plugs (Rebel crawdad with Pautzke krill paste) most of the day. Mom seemed to have all the luck on the big Steelhead, while Lance caught the most fish. Mom landed two nice adult Steelhead over 20-inches and would have had a third Steelhead, (that was a good 6 pounds) but it shook free a mere 5 feet from the boat. The hotshot and worm combo produced fish as well just not any over 20-inches. The river flow was around 1500cfs which is great for any type of fishing. Jack Trout (http://www.jacktrout.com/) who was guiding the other half of the family (Dad and older brother) worked the river with flies and did just as well. Weather permitting the Steelhead fishing will continue top be good. If your still looking for that stocking stuffer, I have gift certificates available.

Klamath River - January 1st, 2007

RECORDED: 32 ° FISHING: Good
No better way to kick off the new year than by fishing. Guy and I fished the Klamath
River (Hatchery to The Klamathon bridge) today and had a good day. We landed three
nice adults to 5 pounds and caught a dozen trout. Crawdad plugs and bouncing bait
(worm and corky) caught all our fish. The river was bit murky but the flow was good
(just over 1300cfs). The temperature started out around 30 and maybe hit 40 when the
sun came out from the cloud cover. There were a couple of other boats out but not
many people are out fishing. Steelhead fishing should remain steady as long as the
weather continue to be consistant.

Lake Siskiyou - January 7th, 2007RECORDED: 32 ° FISHING: Excellent
Twenty Trout caught in 3 hours on Friday, and 20 more Trout caught in 4 hours on Saturday. I would say that is some hot action. My friend Doug fished with me on Friday and we caught one fish after another. On Saturday, my son Conner and I did the same thing and caught just as many. Both days we trolled two Rebel crawdad plugs and one Seps's dodger with a worm trailer. We caught most of the Trout in 20 to 40 feet of water while trolling at 1 to 1.5 mph in the west end of the lake. The weather was sunny but very cold both days with some chilly wind gusts added in. As long as it does not snow to much or get to windy Lake Siskiyou will continue to fish good. I have a fully enclosed heated boat (21 ft Willie Raptor) that allows my clients, friends and I to fish no matter the conditions. This is really a very beatiful time of the year in Siskiyou County. We have two excellent Ski parks (Mt Ashland & Mt Shasta) and some great fishing, (very little pressure) it can be a great way to fill up a weekend.
