If I remember correctly I'll already be down at Lake Crowley, and I may cruise up the "hill" for one day.

I'll be up there from the 7/20-7/23. I'm heading up for a club outing to get some flyfishing in. I'm hoping to catch my first fish on a fly (I'm not counting that BSP). I'll be renting a condo (I better check on it) and staying there with my family and a friend. None of them fish.
This will actually be my first trip up there to fish. I've never been there in the summer. I'll probably sneak some spin stuff, too. I'll be bringing my float-tube.
I've got breathable waders. Anybody know how many layers I should wear underneath?
Not sure yet what kind of schedule I'm going to keep, but it would be cool to hook up while your there.

Yeah, sounds like fun... hopefully we can fish together. To answer your question, during the summer, I usually just wear a thermal pants and sometimes just shorts.

Flyfishing with a float tube up there is like dropping crack at a Recovery meeting...if you guess the right fly, you'll be wide open on the fish. If I head up the hill I'll probably hit Gull. If you guys want to try midge fishing in Crowley, drop me a line.
I'm not sure how many days I'll be at Crowley, it depends on the conditions. If the weather turns bad at Crowley, I'll probably head up to Gull.
Drop me a line if you like.
A friend of mine is thinking of coming but he likes to stay in a hotel room...

The water temps in the upper lakes will still be in the 40's and the lower lakes maybe in the 50's, I would take some thermals and sweat pants and an extra pair of socks as well. I usually get cold after a few hours even when I'm wearing 5mm neoprene and felt wader liners and double or triple socks.

Sounds good. I'll have a better idea of what I'll be doing later on.

oh...in the Sierras I always wear a thin liner (lycra jogging tights will work) and a fleece liner...even on the warmer days. I get cold easy and I always count on the water being ice melt. I just adjust what I wear on my upper body. If it's really cold, I just make sure I paddle alot...usually that's not a problem 'cause if it's really cold, I usually have to fight the wind. Neoprene or fleece gloves are nice, but I usually take them off 'cause they bug me.
I don't like to wear anything cotton underneath my waders because the cotton sucks up the water, doesn't give it up, and makes me feel cold and clammy. I sweat alot so I always count on moisture being in my waders. I also like to wear nylon socks for the same reason...wicking socks are better because your foot area won't breath underwater, under neoprene.
I knew I had to replace my old waders when I was consistently always wet...wet enough to squeeze water out of my socks, even when I wasn't sweating. My waders had a leak or bleed, slow enough that It wasn't normally noticeable...unless you use your waders alot.
