I'm going to bump this thread because with trout season coming up, this is a pretty good thread for everyone to see.

Cool write up..

I just keep it simple when it comes to trout.. gold lures in the smaller sizes with 4lb test. Thomas Bouyants and Panther Martins.. If i can find them in Copper I go that route over gold, but it's harder to find that color.

Sierra Gold is softer so trout get hooked a little easier than with Power Bait.. but if I use power bait i put less on the hook and roll it not as tight.

Best colors: Greens,White,Yellow

Glitter: Add your own glitter to help attract fish.

Salmon Eggs; Usually effective from the surface early or late in the day..

NightCrawlers, inflated are usually the way to go, but casting them with a bubble/swivel and 5 foot leader is also an awesome way to hook em'

Do you like the Thomas Bouyants over Kastmasters or do you consider them different baits for different situations. I do ok on Kastmasters but Thomas Bouyants just seem to do nothing but twist in circles for me. Also, maybe you can give some tips on when, where and how to fish those bouyants

I definitely prefer the bouyants over the kastmasters. I have hadn't had too many issues with the bouyants and twisting unless i'm trolling them. You can completely stop the twisting with a small black snap swivel, I swap my line out a lot so that might be why I don't have the twisting problem. Over all the trout in the sierra espcially seem to prefer the bouyants over the kastmasters. I now pretty much only buy the cyclone version of the thomas bouyant. If you go to a good shop, like Longfin tackle in Orange they have different colors avail, so does most sports chalet. Looks like this...

They weigh the same amount as the big full size ones, but they are much smaller and actually cast farther because they have less mass.. letting them cut through the wind. The fish are also a lot less wary of them because they are smaller. The best one is still the red/gold one but if you can find them in copper.. get that one. Also pick up the fire tiger ones for just after dark.

Oh and if you really want to get tricky, by some size 10 Red Treble hooks, and swap them out for the ones that come with the lure.. smaller hook now and it's red. Works great

Here's a pic of a rainbow that took one of the gold versions of the lure

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard of the cyclone version before. I haven't had very much luck at all with the larger ones. It seems like the kastmasters have always gotten bit better for me.

I still get bit a lot on the Kastmasters, for some reason though I got used to using the bouyants, and at some lakes in the sierras they seem to work better. I love those copper Kastmasters though, just hard to find them.
