Smile Shore fishing in Texas next week.....

I'm attending my brother's wedding in Texas. Afterwards, we're fishing along the Galveston coast in between the main land and the island. Any USEFUL pointers?

I'm not picky, I might try for redfish and sharks. They say pink shrimp works well for bait.

Put some shrimp in your pocket, then wade out till your in chest high water. You should get bit. Or does that just work on the Florida gulf side.

Damn there is that pic again. Make it go away.

Take alot of Gulp products and 1/4 - 3/4 oz jigheads. Redfish like chrome/blue rattle trap baits, too. Topwaters can be good, too. Leave your 6# line at home and bring 10-17# line. Once you get a redfish, you'll want to go back again and again. They are awesome!

By stink, I assume you mean the Gulp, lol. Just about any of the Gulp products work good down there. The shrimp, crabs, minnows and swimbaits seem to work best. As for colors, any of the more natural colors and a few bright colors like chartreuse and pinks work good. Good luck down there and take lots of pics!

Here are some pictures of some flounders you can catch at Galveston. The pictures are from a friend of mine who lives on that area. He uses custom 12' 8W fly rod blank that he made himself and a 1300 Daiwa SS Tournament reel and 4lb fireline. The jigs are just standard crappie jigs and if you maximize the pictures you can see how the rig is setup.

Here is a picture of a very large black drum using the same rig and light line.
