Surf Fishing Video Review

A Friend of mine bought this video from West Marine. He watched it and let me borrow it.
In the Video Dan Hernandez goes Surf Fishing at a small beach on Santa Cruz Island where he caught numerous surf perch without much effort.
I found the video disappointing, it did not have much information and the amount of Surf Perch he caught was almost comical. I think i would have been more satisfied if he was fishing under more difficult and challenging conditions. Maybe he should have fished Bolsa Chica beach during the CBMC,
then then video would have been more credibility. Anyways, i dont recomend buying it unless you want to see someone truly "Shoot Fish in a Barrel."

Thanks for the review. That's a big surf perch on the cover though -> almost meant to catch fishermen and not fish.

I watched it before. It's basicly a catch a cast with any bait. There is about a 5 minute segment in which he explains Carolina rigging and hook size. That's about the best information. And the fish don't get much pressure as he flew to the fishing spot.

I haven't seen too many fishing videos, but two that I liked and found informative were "Bodacious Bass" (I think) and Rapalas "Pros Secrets for Catching More and Bigger Fish".

Bodacious Bass- Good techniques for catching trophy bass w/ crawdads. It's older but good info. I don't have it. Saw a VHS copy somewhere, but don't remember where.

Pros Secrets- Mostly a long Rapala commercial. However it does have alot of good footage, domestic and abroad. Good tips and techniques from a few pros.
I bought the DVD at Target on sale for $3.

I totally agree with you. Fishing a more challenging location would have been more educational. The average angler is never going to get the chance to fish Santa Cruz Island, a remote location where catching fish is almost automatic. The average angler is more likely trying to fish at Dockweiler Beach while trying to avoid the the armies of surfers, skimboarders, and wader wankers. Now that's a real challenge! Dan Hernandez better recognize!

Dan Better Recognize!! Wessssssiiiieeeede!

LOL, but in defense of Santa Cruz Is., it's actually got some of the toughest and more challenging shoreline to fish in California or the Channel Islands archipelago for that matter. I'd like to get a 2-3 day trip together to go fish the Island. Santa Cruz has got some coves along the shoreline that because of certain rock formations, the coves act like mangrove or flats fishing sancuaries.

How'd you like to fish something like this:

I can't wait to get there.
