GAFF??
does anyone kno how to make a gaff?? lol
i have a broken 2 piece rod (as some of u read) if i take off the broken part it is about 3 ft long and sterdy. if i jsut add a big a** hook i think it would work as a gff. ive seen big hooks at turners for like marlin or something would this task actualy work?? wat would be good to (glue or something) add to make the hook stay on the rod and not fall off..??

If you are set on doing that, I would epoxy the he11 out of it and then wrap it really, REALLY good. It would probably be cheaper to buy a gaff, lol.

you can make a simple gaff , pick up a double wide 8/0 hook and wrap it to the pole with plenty of resin or hard drying glue of some kind. keep it simple.

yeah wrap the hook to the rod and then glue it. get rid of the cork or foam handle and reel seat first and put a turks head sorta deal on there

Forget the fun project unless you are "down-to-the-bone" broke & need to to save every last penny. Head down to your local tackle shop or do it on-line. Professionally-made gaffs will save you time--and fish lost due to "amateur night" mistakes

Gaffs
ive made 2 so far - theyare years old wellone is but i used a broom handle it was much sturdyer if your making a big fish gaff use a single hook(ive made my own hooks out of bendable stainless steel) on a smaller fish gaff like for big bass ,sheepys and sm. hallys or just stuff you dont quite wanna bounce over the rail or in the surf use a 2 pronger.in my expierience its the way you bind it to the handle that makes a quality gaff-make a long skinny angle on the wood handle that leads to your hook, it helps to let you know the position of your hooks on your gaff - you dont need to be fiddling with your gaff when you are by your self-and when you do gaff a fish dont be halfhearted about it-ive seen many nice fish lost on the gaff-if your on a boat gaffing, do it in one motion-go under the fish and yank up and follow thru into the boat picture it-one motion,if you are using a big "J" style gaff on a bass or similar you may miss it a few times or lose it thats where you usr a dbl. prong gaff the point on the "J" style is too far from the pole to see what your doing the 2 prong is always close to the pole. And flatten out your hallys b4 you try to gaff em-this may seem like alot but when you lose your fish on gaffing it sucks-when you lose somone elses fish on gaffing you suck! And youll always be reminded of the one you F****D up not all the ones you didnt.good luck to you on your gaff.

i use a hanger or single strand coated electrical wire -ita a piece of coated copper -it aint easy to wrap its nice to have a vice to clamp it in.you dont epoxy the type im talking about, its not going to help.

Or you could buy a gaff hook instead of a fish hook, some seine twine, (rod shops sell it by the foot) and a tube of epoxy. Everyones seen a party boat gaff.
BUT if your rod broke (don't know how) while just fishing it, then do you really want to chance it breaking again on a fish that is worthy of a gaff? (BIG)
