You can vary the retrives. Fish it on the bottom, crank it, jig it. It's all in experimentation for what the fish want at the time. Some carolina rig them also.

I mix up the colors and retrieves when i fish plastics inshore. From straight lead heads to painted with eyes, painted on eyes etc. Might try throwing some 3-4" grubs to. Try scents or tip it with a bit of squid strip. Fish the bottom and the surface. Usually something out there will hit them. good luck.

Try casting them from the beach. Tossing plastics from the pier you really dont get the right swimming effect due to your height to the water. The pic you have is a color I would use. Like Dodoman said greenish "Christmas tree" work well. I like some that will have an orange belly. Greens work well in the surf especially when the grunion are running. Key thing is to keep trying. Try some different colors. Certain ones work well in certain areas.

I ONLY fish plastics, I love them!
I not only use them inshore but I use them on the 1/2 day boats as well, in fact I pretty much only use plastics for trout as well.

get a smaller one!
i suck at fishing swimbaits but the 3" ones work better from shore and in the harbors.

3" curl tails work best in my opinion.

Just repeat over and over "BAITS FOR GIRLS"

Like Dodoman said, bigger baits, bigger fish. For tossing from the beach that would work great. If you fish any of the harbors say Newport I always go with 3 or 4" Depends if you want to catch alot of average size fish or a few larger models. On the other hand if you go with a larger swimbait then you can always tie on a trailer hook, since you will get short bit more often.

Plastics dont work real well at the pier. You can sort of yo yo it up and down, but due to the angel and height you are at on the pier you dont get the right swimming action. You want it to stay down lower along the bottom rather than from the bottom going up.
