Yes they do...I have caught "Wild" Rainbows in the San Gabriel river and some "wild" bows and Brown trout in the Santa Ana River. Some of the employees at Laguna Niguel Lake swear that some of their trout have successfully spawned in their creek and I have caught some rather small trout there that do look like a wild fish but they might also be tag alongs that came with the bigger stock fish. (LNL trout all look like wild fish)

Trout need cold streams with large bolders mixed with smaller rocks. It must have a current. I havent fished LNL in a LONG time but the last time I was there there creek was a muddy hole lol So they might of changed thigns recently, but most stocked fish are triploids (cant reproduce) and the ones that can are usually "drained" of all of their eggs and goo lol

Well said James It would be pretty rare unless there is a strong current; and no I'm not talking about the bubble hole at SARL LMAO

Also the term "Loids" comes from Triploids. The reason these fish can get bigger so much faster isnt really so much genetic MUTATION as it is they are not allowed to spawn, genetically. Spawning takes somewhere around 30% of the fishes body weight during that time. So they grow faster.

lol Your a funny guy there sean, but trout cannot go past 65 degree water, well they can but for every degree over they start dying. Also LNL has a HUGE algae problem, hence their home built weed eater. Algae bloom soaks up the oxygen and you get a turn over on the lake. Once this turn over occurs it kills the trout off. Sure there still might be some fish being caught on suicide missions, but fish do not live there year round. NO WAY, and I do not believe they spawn. But hey Nature has a way of defeating science.

James, your the funny one. Last year LNL had a major algae bloom problem. But this year, they have gotten rid of it somehow. Also, LNL rents a machine called a weed harvester, which harvests the weeds, algae, etc so the bottom isnt too weedy. The trout DO survive at LNL. I have a friend who just caught trout at LNL the other day at the dam.

Holy crap where do I begin...First of all its true that Rainbow trout need cold water to spawn, during the winter the trout stocked at LGL are in full spawn, the males are all hook jawed and full of milt and the females are full of eggs. If you go up to the very upper creek you can watch them up there spawning. I am not saying that any of the eggs survive because it is very dirty water but they are up there trying. The weed harvester is owned by Rick Mendoza, they do not rent it they own it. They actually rent it out to other lakes and make money doing it. Brown trout can handle warmer water better that Rainbows can and they spawn in September October in the fall. And anytime someone wants to go up to the San Gabriel river with me I will produce dozens of beutifull 2 to 5 inch wild born Rainbows that are all over up there. I have also been "baptized" by milt to many times to count by a DFG rainbow as I was holding it to remove the hook, dont tell me stocked fish cant reproduce!!!

i have to agree with james. theres no way in hell there are trout in LNL. i highly doubt there in there. when we had that "tourney" out at lnl, the water in the creek was far from close to the ideal trout temps. the dam is only about 36' surface water temp was about 78. the temp at the dam is probally only 5degrees cooler at the most.the only trout youll find in there are the ones hanging on the walls of the concesion building. i do think they trout can spawn, but the i doubt the eggs would hatch.

I dont really believe that the trout in LNL successfully spawn either but some fish DO live year round and thats a fact! I have seen trout come out of there in Sept/Oct and they stop stocking trout in April. There are not many and its really rare but I have seen it happen a couple of times.

As far as the DFG fish, those are not triploids so yes you will see them with milt and eggs. The fish I am talking about are from vendors like Mt. Lassen. And while they may try at LNL I do not believe they are successful. As far as a few living year round. There may be a few mutant fish, but they dont live year round at irvine and irvine is near three times as deep, and is an actual lake. Sure you may have some left over, I just dont think it would be a whole lot.

if you do catch a trout or salmon with eggs in them then are you allowed to take the eggs or do you have to release it?
