Probably not worth saving, but you never know for sure until you get inside. If you've got the inclination, give it a shot

Some over zealous wife prolly killed her fisherman. Congrats you found the murder weapon.

I wouldn't even touch that thing, just toss it man. Who knows what kind of bacteria has manifested itself in there. The line prolly started off as Yozuri Pink and now look what color it is

i think you should at least dry it out and have some tackle guy take a look at it and ask him if it is worth saving. you never know several years down the line it might be a collecters item. like the tld 5 or 10.

Also you can use the handle.

But for sure use some rubbing achole to kill all the stuff that may be lurking in there.

You have a rod that you can give to some one that is starting to fish and dont know diddily... You will make some one happy by giving it to a newbe fisherman.thats for sure...

Thats my .02.

Finders keepers....

Of course being the pessimist I am I must point out something wrong with that last statement. If you give that rod to someone who is new to fishing and its utterly horrible and it screws up their learning trip then you may just turn that person off to fishing. It's my belief that you need to start someone out on a good setup. Nothing grandeur and fancy that costs a lot, but a fairly decent one so they start with a fighting chance

I agree, but if the rod is a decent rod, why let it go to waste, just clean it up. If the rod is really bad then throw it away, but if it's decent enough to fish then fish it.

I'm sure there are plenty of guys that still have their piece of #### ugly stick or some crappy rod that they have caught tons of fish on.

The reel is probably a goner, based on parts and labor to fix, but makes for interesting talk and conversation. The rod might be saved, it's hard to say. There might be cracks in the blank from washing around in the surf. It could always be cleaned up with some acetone ($6 at a hardware store) and used for wrapping or marbling practice. I do think that it's nice of your dad to find it and offer it to you for your creative side.

The missing eye isn't a problem, most shops can fix or you can learn, but the crumbling foam is. Depending on where it is you may need to rewrap quite a bit. Sometimes you can't fit the foam over the guides, so you have to take off guides, then put the foam. If it's the foam on the back of the handle, and you want to try to fix it, after taking off all the old foam and cleaning properly and prepping properly and everything else, you might be lucky to go in from the rearThe fit might be tight, probably will, but hot water will help the foam stretch, but don't let the foam twist or be scrunched when letting it soak. If this sounds like it's very time consuming and adding up to be a lot of money, IT IS. Sorry, but it's true. In the end I just want to be honest and realistic. It may not just be worth the money.

However, if you are interested in doing so, then there's a helpful book by Flex Coat. It costs $5, and can help greatly with rod building, except decorative wraps. Careful, rod wrapping gets to be very addictive, but there's worse addictions.

that is some knarly looking line. Using it for dental floss would make a great jackass stunt.
