Dropper loop is the way to go. Or if the fish are closer to the surface or suspended, you can flyline or add just a tiny sliding sinker (texas rigged so it can touch the hook) such as 1/8 or 1/4 oz depending on the depth of the fish.

I believe Rockfish are NOT in season right now. So no rockfish, sculpin, Cabezon, or Lingcod. Can anyone else confirm?

Line: 10# test or less, Bait: live is best on dropper loop, next is dead, fished on a straight hook and sinker setup: cut head off anchovie at an angle, hook it thru middle to keep bait horizontal and put a small sinker 15" above it, drop down near reef or kelp and calicos will find it..Jigs: try small Megabait jig in anchovie pattern; 5" Fishtrap plastic in brown or green pattern with orange stripe, using sparkle ones in offcolor water, attached to 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz yellow or red leadhead. A deadly rig off kelp is a Big Hammer plastic bait in clear with red flake(sparkles) and tomato pepper tail..also, a small chrome Krocadile with squid strip jigged near bottom structure or sand areas for halibut...in southern cal, you won't find calicos off the piers but sometimes sandbass and barricuda..good luck.

Keep in mind that calicos will usually always be at the surface.
