chumming

anyone know good chumming facts or tips? i need tips for baitfish and big game fish. if you can all about chumming for baitfish i just usually use wet bread and get the net on them but i only catch 1-6 at a time. i need to find something to get a whole mess of them. do baitfish like mackerel? thanks.

When I make bait I let the bread dry out for a little bit first and then I rub it between my hands so the crumbs make a large "cloud" on the area of your net. When the bait fish are attracted to the tiny pices start tossing 1/2 inch pieces to them tossing each piece closer and closer to your net. When you have a large school over your net keep feeding them as you SLOWLY lift your net towards the surface, when its about a foot below the surface lift it FAST! When I am pier or dock fishing I chum cut frozen anchovies to attract bat rays and sand sharks.

They will come up if you move the net slow, once they are over it and feeding they think its just structure. They get into a feeding frenzy just like all other fish do.

Have the net suspended several feet below the surface (5-6), then start throwing bread both loose on the serface and small balls of it that sink. When you start to see them feeding on your bread then start bringing them to your net, if you feel you must move the net do it as slow as possible. When you get a ball of bait fish over your net start pulling it up slowly but keep feeding them to keep then busy. Then YANK it fast when its only a foot or two deep. The fish will allways be faster than you so you must keep them off guard by feeding them.

also, you cant use a cast net unless you are planning to go to nocal

and sabikis would work too. try the Hayabasus that have different colors and size 12 or smaller hooks.

yeah walmart has them near the hook section. you can also buy them online and other tackleshops

make sure to get pliers and squeeze off the beeds that are on there, they seem to scare the fish. And also, sometimes the best sabikis are ones with dark hooks and dark green yarn that is 2x the the length shank
