Upper Santa Ana river on the 28th anyone?
Rather than make the drive to the Eastern Sierra for opening weekend I thought that I would make an overnight trip to the upper Santa Ana and Jenk's lake.
I will be driving up on Saturday morning and hopefully grabbing a site at the 7 Oaks resort & campground, then I will spend the rest of the day fishing the Santa Ana. Sunday I will head up and check out the water level at Jenk's (I am hoping the parking lot will be open by then), if the lot is open and the water looks good enough I will spend Sunday tubing this little jem in practice for my Memorial Day Sierra trip. If the lake is a bust I can always head back down to the river for the day, plenty of water to explore there...

Hmmm...now, you got me thinking...I'll have to check with the Ranger's station, but if it looks good, I may drive up Friday, fish, spend the night, fish, leave by noon so I can be at work by 3p.

Be sure to let me know ASAP guys, I am going to call the 7 Oaks campground Thursday or Friday of this week and see how much they charge, how many cars & people per site they allow and find out if they take reservations.

I am going to call the Mill Creek ranger station tomorrow and see if Jenk's is going to be opened, if it is I will then be calling the campground to make reservations.
If Jenk's does not open next week (or if the water level is too low) I will make my overnight trip at the Kern instead. Its a longer drive but the camping is free and we can crowd several trucks and tents into the same area without having to pay anything, except for maybe a roadside parking permit.(?)

I just called the Mill Creek ranger station and JENK'S LAKE IS OPEN! I am for sure heading up next Saturday for an overnighter, fish the U.S.A.R. on Saturday and hit Jenk's on Sunday morning.

I'm calling the campground Saturday and seeing if I can make a reservation, pretty sure that its going to be the normal two car, six person limit per site.
Anyone who wants to go let me know by Saturday at around noon so I know if I need to get more than one site.
