Newport Harbor on the 31st anyone?
Looks like "vagabond" and I will be launching from Balboa island and fishing the harbor next Saturday. He will be on his kayak and I will be on my pontoon boat and we will mainly be working the bass around the docks and moorings.
Anyone who wants to go let us know...

Homeslice, you don't need insight on fishing the harbor, just pick something, anything and bounce it or drag it along the bottom, slowly and concentrate around the docks or under boats, and pay attention to the tide...that's all you need. If you want halibut, find sandy beaches or sandy areas near rocks, unlike bait fishing for halibut, if you fish with artificials, you'll know when a halibut hits you...unless you're me and think it's a rock, but that's good because when I think it's a rock I set the hook better. (I have documented evidence of landing "rock" fish )
The bass have hard mouths so if you're using a standard rod, you probably should set the hook more strongly than you think you should...I had to learn that the hard way...funny thing is, when I'm fly fishing, the bass hit my fly so hard usually that all I have to do is tighten my line most of the time. Use your standard bass tricks around the docks if you get bored, but your best bet is a slow retrieve along the bottom...I tend to get hit on the drop if I'm bouncing it so if my line doesn't drop at the rate that I think it should, I swing...remember, swings are free
Russ, if I'm not running errands, I might join you for the morning, until about 10a or so I need to catch a short WSB or that brown fish that cruises the Balboa Canal weedline :P

Russ, I dont think I have anything going on Sat. If not I will be down there. Im guessing your launching from the usual spot.

Yes he is deffinately a visual learner. He needs to see a technique each and every step in order to be able to reproduce it properly. Someone needs to get out there with him and help. Mark teaches him and then laughs at him when Vince gets it wrong, and I'm learning the same things Vince is, so I'm not able to help really either.

depends on what we find when we get down there, you know available parking, tidal movement etc.
Shoot me a PM later in the week and we will arrange something somewhere...

Humm Vince needs demos? Well dont expect a demo on how to pee from your float tube.
Like Ray said its not too difficult as long as there is water movement. I tend to go with curl tail swimbaits in Newport. They seem to work a little better. I like ones with chartruce in them or halloween or christmas tree colors work well too. Something with an orange belly.
Russ, sounds good. I will PM you, I need to give you my new cell # too.

Hey, when you tell me to go f#ck that elk over there while you stand back to masterbate, I must refuse. I go out to fish not to fullfill your pervertic desires.

Unless he means that Mark's desires are to pervert Homeslice to the Dark Side
