When I was 14, I made a popper from a wooden clothes pin. I painted the head red and added a treble between the "legs" and an eye screw to the top. I had read about it in Field and Stream (I think). Anyway, never fished it. I gave it away when I quit fishing at 16. I'm obviously back.

I dont completely "make" my own lures but I rarely use anything I buy as is, I almost allways make some changes one way or another. You would be surprised how many great trout lures you can make with a bag of plastics, some small jig heads and a small pair of sissors.

I am in the process of pouring my own plastics. Making snake worms is not easy. They look nice, but in the water, the action is horrible. Getting the proper texture, bouyancy, and scent is no easy task.

As for making hardbaits, I won't even go there. Much more difficult than most people imagine.

Yup thats true. Check these plastic wanna be flies I made. The tail of the powerworm being the body and the tail of minijig being wings. It got wide open at my local park on these suckers. I love them.
