A couple weeks ago I got some at a tackle shop on Seal Beach Blvd. Close to the shore. I haven't got the address, but if this works for you let me know and I can get you directions.

It's on Seal Beach Blvd and PCH. It used to be called "Norms Bait and Tackle" and my dad used to know the old owner before he moved up to Oregon, if my memory serves me correctly. I'm not sure what it's called now, but I know if the bait shop isn't open, you can get bait at the convenience store. I'm not sure of the store hours.
If you have to take the freeways to the area get down to the 405, pass the 605 going south and get off on Seal Beach Blvd and head south. You'll pass Leisure World, then the Space Assembly plant, Then at PCH, Katty-corner, is the bait shop.
If you're in the LB/Belmont shore area, head for PCH, then go south and after you pass Main Street in Seal Beach (there's a Charo Chicken there) look for the store on the right, just before you come to the overpass, right at Seal Beach Blvd. There's also a bike rental place around the corner. .

I'm not from (LA, or Ventura) so I can't help you,but maybe someone from up there can. I'm sure you don't want to drive all the way down to Seal Beach for ghost shrimp.

I'm from East LA and I drive up there. C'mon man, what happened to going out of your way and making a drive for good bait? Just kidding, I'm actually in Silverlake (10 minutes West of Downtown LA).
Actually, when I was there some guy stocked up on like 20 sets of ghost shrimp. He said he's driven an hour and a half and does it quite frequently. I personally haven't seen them anywhere else.
If anyone knows of another spot, please share (or PM me ) I don't mind having a closer provider. Wouldn't it be something if Fishing25 had 'em. I'm only about 10 minutes away from there.

Hot diggity dawg! You got it right on the money. Sounds like you frequented that spot quite often as a kid. It's a cool place. I like the jetty and Belmont pier. Those two spots bring great memories.

My family used to bring sleeping bags and fish Belmont overnight...that's why I bought my first down jacket...I used to fish the river for bonito when they would school up and run up the river...it literally seemed like a hundred guys were all throwing a fly and a bubble....

ghost shrimp
Why not just buy a pump and pump them yourself? I bought a pump from fisherman hardware for $35. Best $35 I have ever spent. I have pumped someting like 500 shrimps already so it has paid for itself. Today (2/5) I pumped 50 shrimps with in about 10 minutes. Couldn't catch anything with them but that is another matter. Ended up giving them away to a family on my way home.

Have you tried any of the GULP! baits?

Ditto, with colder weather you can keep them alive almost 2 weeks, just keep them in a cold place and change the water twice a day. If not look for parked boats inside a harbor, one with a beach. The lack of waves will help ghost shrimp populations, they don't like waves too much. Also, follow the bords on the sand, they help a lot giving away populations.

So Ghost Shrimp bury themselves in the sand just like sand crabs do. Interesting. So anywhere there isn't wave action I should be able to find them. How deep must one go before finding them?

They dig and dig searching for food. A good place can have from high tide mark to a few feet in the water during low tide. You're basicly pumping along the water line. You want some water underneath the sand, it helps you pump better, although a few regulars prefer pumping in the water and using a floating basket to sift the loads. If you go an hour an hour and a half before peak low tide, you should see the anthills under water, as the water level declines the hills will look like pencil holes. There's an article written on it that you can find on HOOKUP.
