went to the santa monica pier 1/18 and 1/19/07, got there at 3:30, nthn much happening. caught a smelt and a few wsp . around 6, this guy caught a tiny halibut and a seabass looking thing on those worm things. thats it for now.
i went to North Samo and got about 5 BSP barred surfperch yesterday on lugworms the biggest about 12". yes there is definately surffishing all year round...got a halibut and a yellowfin croaker last week all on the LC lure
get a heavier outfit and use the smelt for bait on a sliding sinker rig. go to the south side of the pier just before where they park the harbor patrol boat. that's where I used to get halibut....go to exact opposite side durring the summer use squid and mackeral at night on an incoming tide all the stingrays you can catch.
