San Gabriel river Saturday Jan. 13th???
Mark and I are thinking of heading up to the San Gabe next Saturday if anyone wants to join us. We are even toying with the idea of taking our fly rods along so other people can laugh at us.

Remember...use a strip-hookset, don't lift your rod to set the hook or you will look like me in the Sierras....with your flies in the trees.

Where do we want to hit?
The West fork gets a little heavier stocking but it also gets more pressure from other anglers, its an easier hike because of the paved service road and if you have a bike or some kind of scooter its a quick run to some nice spots.
The East fork is a bit more wild and wooly but you dont have as many people, as much trash or graffiti to deal with either.
Getting wet on either fork is only mandatory if you are fly fishing, with a spin rod you can hit most holes while staying dry with a little skillfull casting.

The trail on the East Fork must've changed since I was last there
I'd vote for the East Fork...it usually has more water, more consistently.
Try any of your basic flies...helgrammite, stonefly nymph (?), or a black wooleybugger. Chironomids work good also. Dry flies, you're on your own Work the pool or eddy from the downstream side first.

I'm up for the ride. Would anyone be so kind as to let me attach my ski rope to your vehicle's tow hitch? My scooter in nuetral should handle the feeway speed fine.

You be there when the green truck with a large tank in the back passes you on it's way to the highest part of the river it can reach
Or you can try calling the ranger station that's right there where you probably will park if you drive up as far as you can...

If you can find the number for the Camp Williams restaurant they can usually tell you if the DFG has been there or not. The rain forecast does not look to bad so I am sure that they will still stock at some point this week.
So whats the plan so far?
where are we meeting and at what time?
and what fork are we going to hit?
