Sanyo Applaud GT-R Trout SUPER Limited

Produced by Hejime Murata

Intro:
There seems to be a current trend of fishing line manufacturers out there that are designing line that are species and/or technique specific. They are lines that are geared towards bass, nightfishing, rock fishing or trout fishing using spoons for example. Well, I decided to try out one of the trout specific fishing line out – The 2lb I.G.F.A Class Sanyo Applaud GT-R Trout Super Limited by Hajime Murata . If you do not know who Hajime is he is a famoust lure designer and pretty much a Japanese fishing living legend.

Impression:

GT-R Trout is an extremely small diameter fishing line. The 2lb line has a diameter of only .110mm. Now one of my favorite 2lb is the Sunline Super FC Sniper and this line has a diameter of .128mm so technically the GT-R has a diameter of what most manufacturers would consider to be a 1 or 1.5lb line.

Another thing I noticed is that the line is smooth in your fingers, soft to the touch and feels very stretchy. The light bluish-silver color is very unique unlike any other lines i've used and doesn’t appear to be a highly visible line.

Testing:
I decided to try out this new line at the Guasti Derby. When it comes to casting, this line is like a rocket! I cast out as light as a 1/64oz mini jig to a 1/8oz egg sinker easily and at great distance. A guy fishing next to me was very amazed as I could almost cast across the lake with the 1/8oz sinker. The line goes out very smooth and very limp through the guides and after cast after cast the line had very little memory!

It strange color and its thin diameter was very hard to tie a knot. Once it was on however it didn’t fall apart. On this day I hooked up on three trout in the 2lb range and not one of them broke at the knot.

In terms of strength, however, the line is extremely frail to the point of disappointment. One of the trout I hooked up on crossed another person line and just cut my line almost instantly. Also when I tried to get rid of PB on my hook by slamming into the lake the line snapped.

In terms of visibility, the line disappears once it hits the surface of water both in sunny and overcast conditions.

Conclusion:
The GT-R Trout Super Limited is premium pricing - it is about 1,400 Yen or about $12.00 dollars for 100 meters of line and secondly very hard line to find! In my opinion it excels at many different areas but the one area that worries me is the strength. If you are a hardcore light line (finesse fishing) enthusiast with very smooth reels this just might be the line for you. If you are not then I would venture at other lines or use a heavier version of this line.

thanks for the review. So far, my favorite has been 2# P-line but this stuff in a 4# test might be nice.
