Daiwa Exceller

just bought the 1500 and it's an awsome reel! super smooth and very reasonably priced. at just 10 dollars more then the sedona, it's prettier, smoother and just feels a lot stronger. nice drags too.

Oh Chris, Chris, Chris.......when are you going to upgrade to the Stella?
You going to give us a full write up on it? I would like to hear what you have to say about it after you get a chance to break it in right. Give us all the pros and cons, and be honest. None of your Daiwa ho'ing LOL
Congrats on the new reel!!

Are you going to use it in SW and FW? Or just one of them? If you come out here, I'll put you on some MONSTER fish to test it on

What's the gear ratio, how much does it weigh, and do they have CCRB bearings? I am not familiar with these one... Thanks.

First saw that reel at Fred Hall last year. I was really impressed with it.

Great reel! Jeff was with me at Sport Chalet when i bought one (though I took it back). Not because it's not a good reel, but because I was planning to use it for surf fishing (because they didn't have the Quantum saltwater Catalyst in stock), but I ordered the Quantum. The Exceler is just a tad bit too light of a frame for my personal preference. I like metal frames, and the that what the Quantum Catalyst is. That Exceler sure is smooth though.

Very nice reel. Bought one today with a 6ft st croix lite action. WIll use it for trout and maybe some surf acton. Not much of a trout fisherman so didn't want the ultralite setup.. Will try it out this weekend after work!!

Hey Al, What prompted you to get the 6ft rod as opposed to 7ft or longer?

I usually Like the longer rods but they didn't have any one pieces that I didn't want to spend a fortune on!! They had a 6'6" two piece but didn't want that. Plus, need to stay in the good graces with the wife so went with the less expensive set-up
