This Friday 11-24-06 Catalina

Well, after missing out on fishing this past Friday at LNL, I hope this coming Friday works out for Catalina. I heard that 30# YT are running around still, so I guess we'll see

I just put fresh drags in my 250 and I'm rarin' to go...if my friend returns my 10 wt flyrod to me in time to change the flyline, we may also target 'bones, he was complaining about the weight of my sinking line setup and the skinny running line

I hope the bait situation stays good...squid should be showing up soon...

Drove up PCH last night and a ton of squidboats off of malibu....

My buddy fished Cat yesterday with his boss, 4 yellows biggest was 25 lbs...I think the other 3 were in the 15 lb range....all caught on straight 20 lb...Sounds like the fish were line shy

Ton of bones out as well.

I was thinking of heading over to Cat for a day of fishing, I have only been there once for scuba diving.
I have all the arrival and departure times of the local cruisers that go back and forth. But I was wondering where there was to fish there, off a pier or shore? And how the fishing licenses work there or if you need one.

Any info is much appreciated!

Vagabond: I would recommend fishing from a 3/4 day boat that's going to Catalina...you have to call the landing and ask. You are going to spend anywhere from $30-40.00 getting to Catalina and you don't get any bait.

You can always (well, almost always, call first) rent a skiff once you get there but if I remember correctly, the rates are not cheap. You can also fish from shore, but getting around the island is a problem...you're usually kind-of limited to walking the area around Avalon...one of our board members lives in Avalon and he can tell you. The lake that he fishes is closed to mainlanders. You might be able to rent a kayak, but don't even think about using a float tube...the currents can get pretty strong at times and you won't know it until you try to head back. Be careful where you fish, there are some locations that are protected, pay attention to signs. There is a shower out by the casino if you want to use freshwater to rinse off before heading home.

Just make sure you take your California Fishing License with the Ocean Enhancement stamp, and a camera...oh, and ask girls in bikini's to hold your fish

What I hope to be doing is to be on a friend's private boat...that way I can get back to the dock by 3p or so. There's alot of drama right now over me working Friday so we'll see...

Hey, here in the SoCal Zone--from El Lay to Berdoo--once the temperature goes 69 & below--us dudes are rockin' the longjohns, the heavy duty Mackinaw coats, and fur-lined snow boots. And if the temperature drops another 10 degrees--forget about it--we're in hiberation mode until the next Santa Ana condition
